Can't Generate 3rd Party App Password (AOL) for Outlook 2016 Desktop using Windows 11

I have been using Outlook 2016 Desktop for Windows for quite awhile to access my AOL - (Verizon.net) emails. Just recently, I can't sync my AOL emails to my Outlook 2016 Desktop app. I can not generate an app password via AOL in order to sync and download my new emails to Outlook. I have contacted AOL several times and they are NO help at all. How can I generate a 3rd Party App password to make my outlook work as before? Any ideas/solutions on how to get around this issue?

P.S. I am using Outlook 2016 Desktop (Windows 11), not Outlook 365 or Outlook.com app.

I believe that it is not ALL AOL accounts that are affected. It seems very squirrely. I believe it has something to do with the age of your account and where it originated. Ours originated with GTE! It's been "owned" by GTE, Yahoo, Verizon and AOL over the years! I just tried again (5/30/23 - pm eastern) and it's still down for me. Cannot generate an app-specific password, and can't use Outlook without one.

Dear Chris Sutton Tampa and others in this thread,

I retried today and suddenly it was working and I have access to my Netscape email again through MS-Outlook 365.

    Thanks, Leendeert

I don't think it has anything to do with multiple accounts. I can't set up an app specific password with just one account.

I had to change the regular AOL password - possible hacking - but then it won't let me set up an app specific password. I'm not sure if this is a problem with ALL aol accounts or just some.

that's exactly what they told me on 5/30/23 - "sorry, it doesn't work - keep trying."

You are CORRECT!! It is all AOL. They don't want you to use a third party app because it takes away advertising money from them. I have noticed that the app password is flaky. It works sometimes and other times it doesn't.
