Can't Generate 3rd Party App Password (AOL) for Outlook 2016 Desktop using Windows 11

I have been using Outlook 2016 Desktop for Windows for quite awhile to access my AOL - (Verizon.net) emails. Just recently, I can't sync my AOL emails to my Outlook 2016 Desktop app. I can not generate an app password via AOL in order to sync and download my new emails to Outlook. I have contacted AOL several times and they are NO help at all. How can I generate a 3rd Party App password to make my outlook work as before? Any ideas/solutions on how to get around this issue?

P.S. I am using Outlook 2016 Desktop (Windows 11), not Outlook 365 or Outlook.com app.

I had to replace my hard drive & reinstall Windows. So, I had to setup Outlook again.

I have several AOL accounts for different purposes, including some by family members that I monitor.

The 1st AOL a/c got added to Outlook OK with the AOL app-password.

Then, AOL won't generate app-passwords for other AOL a/c (message: This feature is not available right now). I kept trying.

AFTER 2-3 days, I could add 2nd AOL a/c with the app-password. But the same issue with adding more AOL a/c.

I will try again in 2-3 days.

It may be that AOL has some internal restriction on adding multiple AOL accounts to Outlook simultaneously.

So, after 2 days, I was also able to add the 3rd AOL a/c to Outlook using the AOL app-password.

To summarize, the 1st AOL a/c was added right away, 2nd after 2-day wait, 3rd after another 2-day wait.

It may be a coincidence, but it seems that there is some method to this madness. AOL may be just waiting 2 days to generate app-password to add another AOL a/c to outlook.

Dear “Momma Mills”, That used to work, but the App Password generator is not working for a while now.

When did you try what you are explaining?

I got my husband a new computer and was so excited. That was until he told me he needed to access his AOL email via Outlook and it turned out to be near impossible to make work. I have spent hours, including a good amount of time wasted on the phone with AOL customer service, to try to set this up for him.

Thank you so very much for this work around--I just tried it and it worked!!

    1. Set up 2 step verification on AOL,
    2. Generated app password on AOL (and it worked!)
    3. Used app password in Outlook to add AOL email to it
    4. I could then successfully open my AOL email in Outlook!!

Once it was working, I went back to AOL and turned off 2 step verification

    (We are on Windows 10)

Just Go to Account Security and try to turn off 2-Step Verification and turn it on again.
