I am using the free version of Outlook.com and followed the forums and help how to set up a GMail sync to Outlook.com.

However since two days I got this clicking on the "Sync Email" menu.

Even the X button on the upper right corner does not operates when being in this menu.

I tried this menu in browsers like Edge, Internet Explorer, Chrome, Opera.

All the same results.

Questions:

  1. can I use Gmail sync using free version of Outlook.com?
  2. do you know this

Victoria Kendall aka ReynaldoB, M365 Consumer Forum Moderator, Microsoft Community writes:

"Based on your description, the reason why your sync email option is blank might be because there's a problem on the server. You may observe the behavior by trying again after 24 hours or by using other network for the internet."

How can someone described as a moderator write such nonsense?

The sync pane has not displayed for over a month.

Did you not even read the previous posts?

The sync feature is not available for new accounts, but even more serious, the sync pane cannot be displayed, so existing sync accounts cannot be removed.

This is not a temporary network problem.

It is a very serious bug on Outlook.com

Scope: outlook.com email sync pane and functions.

    Reply to RMcManamy and ZdenekT

    According to Microsoft:

    • The sync email function has been permanently removed (without any explanation)
    • The sync pane had other functions as well, including setting the default FROM: address, and MS say this will be restored.

This information is from a support email I have from Microsoft.

I cannot guarantee the accuracy of this.

I am having the same exact problem. The settings cannot be displayed. Tried using Chrome and Edge. None of the browsers make a difference. It seems to be a server issue.

Same problem here. When going to the Sync Email tab I get Unable to load these settings.

My problem, is that my Gmail is still syncing to my Outlook account. I have no way to stop it, no way to remove it.

Not cool when someone is pulling email from an account when you don't want them to, I wonder if that is a privacy issue or something.

For that you can change your password on your GMail account which will break the Outlook syncing it. But then it sounds like from other people you might get constant warnings about Outlook not being able to connect to your GMail.

So then for that you probably have to create a new Outlook email address, change your Microsoft Account to that, and delete the old one. And that's only if nobody uses your old @outlook.com email and you can part with it. https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-delete-outlook-hotmail-account/

So once again I have absolutely no problem saying the entire Outlook.com team and management are a complete bunch of IDIOTS and it has only been getting worse I would say the last 5 years or so. It started when they forced the old Hotmail/Outlook web users to the new Outlook.com which has never been as good as the old Hotmail web interface as far as reliability.

Hopefully the Monarch/One Outlook that is in the works will finally work as it should and maybe if we are lucky work half as good as the old Win32 Desktop Outlook did a decade ago.

Add me to the pile of bewildered people that this feature is broken. Under the hood, the service is throwing a "500" error which should be alerting their system admins. Sad no Microsoft response.
