New Outlook.com (Hotmail) sign-in page : Autofill/Autocomplete not working?

Today a new style of sign-in page appeared for Outlook.com (Hotmail) — and autofill/autocomplete doesn't work for the e-mail address field!

I have several e-mail addresses, and until now I've only needed to enter the first letter to get the dropdown list. Now there's no dropdown list. I have to type the full e-mail address each time I sign in. As I often switch between accounts, and you have to sign out of one to be able to sign in to another, this loss of autofill is very frustrating and time-wasting.

It's not a browser-related problem: it happens in 3 different browsers (Chrome, Firefox, IE).

It's not computer-related: it happens on 3 different computers.

It happens only with the Outlook.com (Hotmail) sign-in. On other websites, autofill still works for e-mail address fields.

I can only assume that Microsoft's developers have blocked autofill/autocomplete on this new sign-in page. If this is a deliberate choice, then why? It's extremely annoying and time-wasting. If it's just a mistake, I hope that MS will correct it very quickly.

Has anyone else discovered the problem?  Does anyone have a solution or a workaround?

    ZigZag3143,

Perhaps I am making a mountain out of a mole hill .... and perhaps it would be easier to just type the user name ... but to me this issue is just another in a LONG string of customer unfriendly actions by Microsoft.

There was no announcement (from Microsoft) of the change (i.e., loss of auto-complete in the sign on page), there was no explanation of why this was done (i.e., exactly what problem was being solved by disabling auto-complete), there were inconsistent (and often totally wrong) replies from various Microsoft-engaged moderators as to the cause and solution for this problem. Microsoft initially refused to state whether this loss of auto-complete was by design or a bug ... then I received a reply from the Answer Desk stating that it was a bug. However, due to the simplicity of the fix for this "bug" (all Microsoft need do is set the "autocomplete" parameter in the Sign On page's HTML to "on"), if this were really a bug, Microsoft could have easily fixed it by now. So, it appears that you were right all along (this change is by design). Yet Microsoft continues to neither fix the problem nor provide an explanation of exactly what problem is being solved by disabling auto-complete.

And then you make statements like this: "The page is by design, and there is a good reason for it." ... which is just as vague as Microsoft. If you know of a good reason for disabling auto-complete, then why not share it with us????????

So, yes, the mole hill has been turned into a mountain for the simple reason that Microsoft continues to disrespect their customers and some of us have grown tired of that behavior and refuse to just "go away".

The issue is not just saving keystrokes when signing in, the issue is customer respect ... and in my opinion, that issue (customer respect) is worthy of being turned into a mountain.

    To All

Let's look at the real problem.

This issue was reported and the first thing MS Support did was try to point to errors in other applications ( browsers ) and defer the issue.  After several replies Support said the issues was fixed, which we all know it was not.  When trying to raise our concern we are finally told it would not be fixed.  As I stated before this was a problem in the last upgrade of Outlook and it took a couple of week before MS admitted the issue and fixed the problem.

My issue is application Integrity.   When an application takes away a basic function notice is sent out to all users to note the demise date.  This is done so all users can prepare for any problems this would cause. When I first reported this issue in the last upgrade of Outlook, I was told I should just stay logged in, they could not see this would be a large security issue,, leaving you email open to all.  This time Support took a different stance stance until they were shown it was an Outlook problem again.

Would any of you who develop systems take away a common function and not tell your users  I don't believe you would, all we are asking MS to do is give us the same courtesy.

ZigZag3143 having strong support for a company is one thing, but for a company to be strong they have to admit their errors.

    Hi Dale,

This is the first time I've used the 'uservoice' facility.  Using keywords in the 'search' function (via 'Enter your idea', then 'Vote for an existing idea') doesn't seem to be very effective. It often comes up with 'No ideas found'.

I suppose I could post a link to the "idea" (thread?) that I posted there 24 hours ago, except that when I view it under my account it's still marked "Awaiting moderator approval " "Your idea is being processed and will appear shortly". If I sign out out of my account, it's not viewable.

So, much as I appreciate your willingness to join in there, it doesn't seem possible at the moment.

    Here's a link to what I posted:

    https://outlook.uservoice.com/forums/284136-outlook-com/suggestions/13317504-new-outlook-com-sign-in-page-autofill-autocomple

(That's the full link: it truncates my actual title at 'autocomple')

If you try it right now, you'll just get "This idea is awaiting moderator approval".  Maybe it'll work in due course ...?

Your account has been migrated to the new outlook mail.

    ZigZag3143,

My account has NOT been migrated to the new outlook system.

Here is a copy of the banner above my inbox ...

Microsoft has recently released a new version of their Microsoft Account sign in page. This new page is applicable to BOTH the new and the old outlook.com accounts.

There is a bug in the new sign in page that makes AutoComplete fail to work (whereas auto complete does work for other sites (such as netflix, facebook, gmail, etc).

This bug has NOTHING to do with the new outlook.com email system.

I'm having the same problem too. Very infuriating but what's even more frustrating is the apparent official indifference to the problem.
