New Outlook.com (Hotmail) sign-in page : Autofill/Autocomplete not working?

Today a new style of sign-in page appeared for Outlook.com (Hotmail) — and autofill/autocomplete doesn't work for the e-mail address field!

I have several e-mail addresses, and until now I've only needed to enter the first letter to get the dropdown list. Now there's no dropdown list. I have to type the full e-mail address each time I sign in. As I often switch between accounts, and you have to sign out of one to be able to sign in to another, this loss of autofill is very frustrating and time-wasting.

It's not a browser-related problem: it happens in 3 different browsers (Chrome, Firefox, IE).

It's not computer-related: it happens on 3 different computers.

It happens only with the Outlook.com (Hotmail) sign-in. On other websites, autofill still works for e-mail address fields.

I can only assume that Microsoft's developers have blocked autofill/autocomplete on this new sign-in page. If this is a deliberate choice, then why? It's extremely annoying and time-wasting. If it's just a mistake, I hope that MS will correct it very quickly.

Has anyone else discovered the problem?  Does anyone have a solution or a workaround?

I am having the exact same problem !!!!

Other users are also having this problem.

See here and here for other threads about this same problem.

Here's a link to outlook uservoice ... we can try posting a complaint there.

It would be nice if a Forum Moderator or Support Engineer from this Microsoft Community site would escalate this problem to Microsoft developers.

I have tried this repeatedly since the new sign in page appeared, and auto-completion does not occur.  This is a big time waster, and with long account names it results in frustrating typos.  Please FIX IT!

Alas, this is the world we live in now. It's not just Microsoft. The trend now is to outsource and specialize and modularize and .....you get the idea. This applies to most customer service.

    roshanlal,

I agree with you ... most companies offer very poor customer service.

I might be able to understand why a new start-up company would have to cut costs to stay competitive and thus might offer poor customer service.

But Microsoft has quarterly revenue of over $20 BILLION Dollars. They could easily afford to put more funding into significantly improving their customer service ... if they really cared about their customers.

Fixing this problem with auto-complete is trivial ... all Microsoft has to do is set the "autocomplete" attribute (in the sign on page) to "on". Not only do they refuse to fix this problem, but they also refuse to have the courtesy of explaining why they have disabled the auto-complete function.

I too have developed a work around (it is described in the same thread that you linked to). I wrote a user script that enables auto-complete each time I open the sign on page in my browser. Details can be found in the link you provided in your previous post.

Thank you for your latest reply, Syed.

In my past experience, the "feedback" facility has been a one-way 'black hole', with no information about what, if anything, is actually being done. It might have worked as a suggestion box (new ideas that may be addressed at some future time), but I've never seen it work as a vehicle for urgent problems.

Still, the format of it has changed considerably since I last tried using it, so maybe the service has changed too. I'll give it a try.  Maybe others who read this thread might also like to give feedback through that link as well.

    Can you please tell

me exactly where contents regarding this thread will be in http://outlook.uservoice.com/

I will definitely add my voice -
