my brother just bought the surface pro 7, and initially the keyboard works, but after closing the type cover, once he returns, the keyboard does not work anymore, the driver cannot even be found. We tried all fixes, nothing except factory reset worked. It happened again today, a day later and we are perplexed. we cannot continue to factory reset every day for this keyboard type cover to work, what can be done??

I don't know where you are located but I'm at Vancouver, BC, Canada. Microsoft has closed down all their physical stores in Canada so it's become a challenge for me to get this solved over the phone. Honestly, I don't think any troubleshooting can solve this problem. It only frustrates me more and wastes more of my time. If someone knows how to start a lawsuit about this please let us know. In the meantime I am going to try Consumer Protection BC and see what they say about this.
So my issue occurred as intermittent at first, so just detaching and reattaching normally fixed the issue.
Eventually it became very sensitive to movement or heavy typing, disconnecting regularly.
I tried various software fixes, but in the end scraping the contacts on the surface (not the keyboard) with a small screwdriver cured the issue.
So I guess they had either oxidised or got some dirt on them. Just tried the keyboard to check I wasn't imagining I fixed it (I only use it occasionally) and it is still working fine.
Your mileage may vary, but it worked for me. It would explain why some people say the keyboard works on other devices - given the issue is the contact plates on the surface itself.
All this was a bit surprising given my Surface Go has never had a similar issue and is many months older, and had many more detach/attach events.

I completely agree with you. We should start with lawsuit. Spending so much money and the for non warranty devices they suggesting paid replacement. Now after reading your reply i feel like throwing my surface pro. We should get refund or permanent fix for this. I request users who all are suffering from this issue should raise the voice.
No fix for me either. Tried two times pro7 replacement and 1 time type cover replacement sand still no fix. If we get enough victims we should start lawsuit. This has wasted so much of my time, money, and caused so much inconvenience. This is unacceptable.
Does anyone found permanent fix for non detection of type cover??? Very disappointed with the service. My tab is out of warranty but type cover is in warranty. I have ordered for Bluetooth keyboard for the time being. Don't understood why MS is not coming up with permanent fix. Flickering screen was the manufacturing fault and non detection of type cover is caused due to updates. According to MS if it's. hardware issue then also like flickering screen they should offer a free replacement for out of warrenty. devices. Worldwide almost every surface user is facing this. May be for few of them few tricks worked But rest all the users are suffering.
