my brother just bought the surface pro 7, and initially the keyboard works, but after closing the type cover, once he returns, the keyboard does not work anymore, the driver cannot even be found. We tried all fixes, nothing except factory reset worked. It happened again today, a day later and we are perplexed. we cannot continue to factory reset every day for this keyboard type cover to work, what can be done??

Thanks for the tip! I have installed the newest firmware - SurfacePro7_Win10_18362_20.122.27379.0 - and the TypeCover started to work! It is already several days without any problems. The keyboard works all the time in any tilt position.

Hopefully, Microsoft spotted this extremely annoying problem!

The keyboard stopped working completely. I retract my previous good words towards Microsoft.

In two months I am changing SP7 for ThinkPad X1 Yoga 6gen. Never going to get back to Surface.

Yeah, it's still flaky, although much better than before, so I still hope that MS will completely fix it.

I've noticed the type cover is working much better since the latest firmware update. There was some new firmware delivered via Windows Update and also I manually installed firmware SurfacePro7_Win10_18362_20.122.27379.0 from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=100419

It's not 100% fixed - it still drops out occassionally but now I can detach it and reattach and it comes back to life.

Hopefully this means that MS are addressing the problem.

Interested to know if other people have the same results.

Same with mine - type cover will randomly work for 15-20 minutes and then nothing for a few days, then it will spring into life for another 15-20 minutes.

As others have said earlier in this thread, if you completely drain the battery, plug in the Surface and boot it up the type cover will (almost) always work in that situation, but again it's a temporary fix. I did this recently and the type cover worked for an hour before "disconnecting".

Since my last post, the keyboard just stop one type after been idle for a few time.

When I started to use the virtual keyboard moments later the physical one return to life.

I still "using" the full shout every time and is working for me.

I also don't understand since this issue is occurring for so long why there is no official answer about it, expect those time consuming not resulting steps.

I still believe the issue is related with the way the OS is managing the drivers, I don't believe that  reinstalling everything from scratch solves anything, just delays it
