my brother just bought the surface pro 7, and initially the keyboard works, but after closing the type cover, once he returns, the keyboard does not work anymore, the driver cannot even be found. We tried all fixes, nothing except factory reset worked. It happened again today, a day later and we are perplexed. we cannot continue to factory reset every day for this keyboard type cover to work, what can be done??

    Hi

Nope. I'm on my 5th device in two months and am being asked to exchange it again.

The Type Cover has now stopped working completely. I am using an external bluetooth keyboard and mouse. I actually had to go into my retailer so they could video proof.

My Micro SD card works better but crashes with medium Photoshop work. I have now resorted to small fans at each location to cool the device down.

I'm really as we say in South Africa 'gatvol' - had a stomach full.

Did this fix the problem permanently?

Since the latest round of firmware updates (two weeks ago) my Type Cover has gone from not working at all to working intermittently. It actually lasted 30 minutes the other day before 'disappearing' in the Device Manager.

I have tried everything to solve this. It's a very strange problem as it's difficult to work out if it's hardware, firmware or software (or a combination) that's at fault. I had my Type Cover replaced under warranty but that didn't fix it.

This worked for me but I'm still finding the trackpad to be intermittent and the Micro USB is still disconnecting and reconnecting which is a major issue as I'm using a 512gb as my OneDrive storage.

    From Microsoft

I would recommend recovering your device from a recovery

I'm sending you the steps to download and install Surface recovery image for your device.

1- Open this link to download the windows file: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/surfacerecoveryimage

2-Scroll down the page and select ‘"Continue without signing in”, please select the Surface model, enter the serial number, select “continue”.

    Please download : Surface Pro 7 - i5/8/128 M1866 - Windows 10 Home Version 1903

3-Select “Save as” and save this file to your PC desktop (that would be easier to find).

This is a pretty bigfile, it might take a while depending on your internet speed. (It's completely normal).

DO NOT save this file into the USB drive.

4-Let’s format the USB. Insert the USB drive, open the windows file explorer >> select “This pc” >> Select the USB drive, right click on it >> Select “File system as FAT32” from the drop down menu, you can do a quick format and the USB will be ready.

Remember to use a USB thumb drive with 16gb or 32gb ( no bigger than that).

Once the windows file is downloaded, you will need to extract the file and send it to the USB drive already formatted. Please do not create any sub folder inside of the USB drive.

Locate the file recently downloaded, right click on it, select 'extract all", browse the computer and select the USB drive.

Once, the extraction is completed, move on and start with the installation process.

1- Turn off your surface device > Insert the USB drive > Press and hold the volume down button and power button at the same time for 15-20 seconds.

You should see a blue screen prompting to choose the language and keyboard layout.

2-Select "Troubleshoot" > Recovery from a drive > Skip bit locker recovery key (If prompted) > Select Fully clean the drive > Recover.

Make sure to plug in the power supply, the installation process takes 45 minutes up to an hour.

    Hi

I have not yet resolved the issue. The keypad and trackpad work intermittently now. The Micro SD card still keeps mounting and dismounting. I have however gotten in contact with an agent called Gabriela P. I do not have a direct email address for her unfortunately. She has been great. First time I feel I'm liaising with someone who actually cares. I will setup from a USB stick today and see if it helps. I will revert to you once I've completed the exercise.
