my brother just bought the surface pro 7, and initially the keyboard works, but after closing the type cover, once he returns, the keyboard does not work anymore, the driver cannot even be found. We tried all fixes, nothing except factory reset worked. It happened again today, a day later and we are perplexed. we cannot continue to factory reset every day for this keyboard type cover to work, what can be done??

I purchased my Surface Pro 7 six weeks ago. The first had screen lines and was exchanged. The Type Cover on the second worked for two days. The third worked only until setup. I have tired everything suggested by Microsoft and by this and other threads. My retailer has no clue. Microsoft allows no other channel for support except their stupid troubleshooting guide. So I have no idea what to do. I can't keep exchanging devices and my retailer refuses to allow me to return the device as they claim Microsoft has guarantee systems in place.

Thanks for the idea. And I also believe the issue is not the cover but the the relation between the driver and the OS

I don't have any external device connected on the usbc port or either to the usb.

Reverting to the "default" version of the operating system is completely out of question and only as last resource.

For me don't make sense to have the updates disabled unless there is something official mentioning that the issue is cause by the updates.

    But thanks anyway ;)

There is nothing wrong with cover. Tested this on older versions of surface. I have reinstalled system and I do not allow update.

One thing that is connected is if you are using USBC port. Try to disconnect everything except charger, do not use USBC, leave it for a while turned off. Power on and try. For me this is giving some results recently, not that I am fully confident that keyboard will work every time. Really there is no rule....

I have the same behavior after receiving the last windows updated, windows version 20H2.

Done everything, uninstall driver, reboot surface, worked for a few moments and then died.

Installed the drivers pack for Surface, after reboot worked for a a brief moment and died again.

Device Surface 7 Pro, cover Signature Type Cover.

Does anyone have any additional ideas?

@Microsoft any advise besides the cover replace?

I'm using surface pro 4. Worst part is Microsoft is aware they don't  have solution for this. Who so ever report this issue they just waste time and  energy of their customers is the most irritating thing. After all failure attempts to fix it fails they suggest to replace device. After replacement also there are bright chances of occurring same issue. Microsoft should  stop fulling customers  any more.
