Surface Pro 4 Keyboard not working / type cover keyboard driver missing

Okay, now after one week of nothing but frustration and everything I did was in vain, my type cover suddenly working...!???

The oddest thing of it all is that, I brought it to an IT store and asked them if I can borrow their display type cover for a bit to try it on my Surface Pro 7. The device didn't respond to their type cover also so I was totally lost. I came back home and just make peace with myself that it is what it is. Forget about the thing for the whole day. Saw that there's a new update (2021-01 Update for Windows 10 Version 20H2 for x64-based Systems (KB4023057)) waiting to be installed so I stick the type cover to Surface in case this install might help. Turns out that there's an alert saying "found new device" and start installing type cover driver for me and the type cover is working again?!

I still don't know what to make of this. And now I shall install that update and hopefully it won't crash the type cover.. again

The type cover still working fine. Never stressed out for updating my OS this much before..

If could be of any help: With this issue probably a restore point could not be enough. I have 3 restore points before de **** update, and every one fails do roll back. Finally I have restored the device to the begining with the ISO downloaded from Micro$oft and still doesn't repair comunication with devices (sensors, keyboard, etc...). 

And if M$ isn't capable of repair the device that they broke... what else? 

I hope your case wasn't the same and you can recover your device.

Wellcome to the users damaged by this kind of **** by M$. 

There are a lot of people including me that have sufered this. 

I have tried all, all, all, and now waiting for a UE Complaint, because M$ wants that I pay 600€ for some kind of firmware update issue that they do and they can't arrange. 

This is an old know problem, that ramdomly appears to several Surface products. The issue also affects to other sensors, like rotation (as my case also with type keyboard), and ilumination. Probably something related to I2C bus that the device uses to communicate with the sensors, and some update make it unreachable. 

But M$ doesn't take care of his users, so, my recomendation is that never, never, never buy other M$ device or recoment it.

Oh man! 

Maybe you´re right. I´ve got bad news.

As I´ve written it worked fine, but after 6 days of unstoppable updates and massive files downloads, today the problem is BACK! The keyboard is totally dead! None response. 

I've tried to remove all the updates but a few of them still there even while trying to remove it manually (see image) - something related to system integrity or whatsoever...

Well, I just started to do this whole process again and this time I will try not to update anymore till Microsoft solve this problem once for all.

Please, if any of you guys find a better solution keep us "update"

Well, at least for my own.

While reading heaps of informations around here I found this solution for my Cover Type! Long process, more than 18 hours to full complete, but suddenly this message appears!!!

I must confess I was skeptical of these very long 'restoration' and mainly because I've done similar actions before using Recovery Options with no success. So, I gave it a shot! Last chance! And here's what I followed:

How to Download, Create and Use a USB recovery drive

To download the Recovery Image:

• You'll need a PC running Windows 7 or later or Surface Device.

1. Visit the page to Download the recovery image for your Surface
2. Sign in with your Microsoft Account
3. From the list of Surface devices available, select the device that you need a recovery image for

Please note that while you will only be presented with devices that are currently registered on your account, you will also be presented with the option to get an image for a different type of device. If you try to use this option, you will be prompted to enter the serial number for that device 4. Download the recovery image using the button on the page 5. When the download bar pops up at the bottom of your screen, save the file in a location you will be able to find it.

 Format USB Drive:

• Note: Formatting a recovery drive will erase anything that is already stored on your USB drive. Make sure to transfer any important data from your USB drive to another storage device before using it to create a Surface USB recovery drive.

1. Insert your USB drive into the USB port of your PC.
2. From the desktop, open File Explorer
3. Tap and hold or right-click on the USB drive and choose Format
4. Select FAT32 as the file system and enter a Volume label to name the USB drive, such as RECOVERY, and then tap or click Start
5. Tap or click OK to erase the contents of the USB drive
6. Tap or click OK when the format is complete

Create a recovery drive:

1. On your Surface or PC, open recovery image that you downloaded by double-clicking it or right click then select Extract and then Extract all.
2. Select the USB drive you formatted earlier for the location and click Extract.

Use a USB recovery drive to reset your Surface:

1. Shutdown the Surface
2. Insert the USB recovery drive into the USB port
3. Press and hold the volume-down (-) rocker
4. Press and release the power button
5. When the Surface logo appears, release the volume-down (-) rocker
6. Surface will start the recovery software on the USB recovery drive
7. When prompted, choose your language options and keyboard layout
8. Select Troubleshoot
9. Select Recover from a Drive. Choose Remove Everything and Fully Clean the Drive. Recovering this PC.
10. If prompted, select Repartition the drives
11. If prompted for BitLocker Key, tap Skip this Drive
