Surface Pro 4 Keyboard not working / type cover keyboard driver missing

Hi.

I have a surface Pro 4 and the type cover keyboard is not working.

The driver has gone missing (just shows HID keyboard device) so I can't do what the other forums have said an uninstall the driver.

I have installed the SP4 driver updates and still not working.

I also did the two-button restart and disabled/enabled the keyboard in UEFI. No joy.

This is really frustrating. Other people have this issue:

I'm on 10.0.18632 Build 18632 MS Windows 10 Pro

Can anyone help with this?

I bought a new one and it did work. Try to see if you can try it out in a physical store (in between lockdowns) or make sure that you can return the product and get your money back.

My surface pro 4 type cover is also not working except in bios.  My driver is there, but it is simply not working after the latest update (Windows 10 version 1909, OS Build 18363.1256).

I have done the following to no avail:

    1. Reinstalled all drivers with new driver package from Microsoft
    2. Checked to verify that surface type cover works in advanced recover mode in bios
    3. Wiped connectors with alcohol and q tip
    4. Disable and enabled type cover port
    5. Reset the pc and installed a fresh copy of Windows 10 64 bit version 1909, then restored my data
    6. Uninstalled various drivers and reinstalled
    7. Disconnected the cover and left overnight and hoped for magic
    8. Made sure that the type cover was enabled in UEFI
    9. Did the volume two button restart
    10. Did the Chkdsk scan
    11. Used the DISM tool
    12. Used a surface diagnostic tool to check on my hardware

In addition, the system is now unstable and I am getting the blue screen of death many times upon restart….”kernel security check failure”.

I am convinced that the latest Microsoft update changed something.

I am stunned by the ongoing silence from Microsoft on this.

    Appalled.

    Hi

This is exactly my issue - the driver has disappeared.

So far Microsoft have not offered any fix... I was given a long list of things to try (some of which I had already tried but did again)...

Still waiting to hear from Janette after many days now...

    Nick

    hey Nick,

i m still here waiting for an answer.

installation-remove the driver"SurfacePro4_Win10_18362_20.034.43185.0 " several times, but failed...

battery drained completely- charged+ restart: failed

it seems like MS does NOT care about us.

probably time to switch to MAC book.

GOOD LUCK FOR ALL OF US

    Lil

Apologies for the delayed response, NickHopwood.

From what you've shared, you have done all the steps that we provided. As you mentioned that the keys and touchpad do not work in UEFI, this is a hardware issue.

What is the Windows 10 version and OS Build you see when you go to Settings> System > About?

Do you have Windows 10 version 1909 or is it 2004?

We suggest to perform Windows Update to the latest version.

As well as run the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit.

    Regards,

    Janette_Z
