Surface Pro 4 Keyboard not working / type cover keyboard driver missing

Hi.

I have a surface Pro 4 and the type cover keyboard is not working.

The driver has gone missing (just shows HID keyboard device) so I can't do what the other forums have said an uninstall the driver.

I have installed the SP4 driver updates and still not working.

I also did the two-button restart and disabled/enabled the keyboard in UEFI. No joy.

This is really frustrating. Other people have this issue:

I'm on 10.0.18632 Build 18632 MS Windows 10 Pro

Can anyone help with this?

Hi There, I have been following this thread too.

We all have the same issues and spent 100s of hours trying to resolve this keyboard issue on my S4.

I reverted to a wireless logitech KB and Mouse to overcome the issue for £20. defeats the compactness!!!! but MS are not even trying to help us. My battery is not holding a charge now its about 4yrs old, and to try and get a battery changed, is challenging to say the least, so I will be moving to a mac-book soon me thinks.

In the mean-time, if anyone has a fix without a restore where I lose all my software programs, please let me know

    Regards

    John

I just got the same issue today aswell.

SP4 keyboard on a surface pro 7 stopped working with no lights.

After the issue, the keyboard also stopped working with surface pro 4.

I tried the generally reccomended steps

    Hi Janette

I'm getting a bit worried Microsoft has simply given up, leaving me with a device I cannot use.

Can you get back to me, at least just to say someone is looking into it?

To confirm, all the following have been done:

    1. Check connection points for dirt
    2. Two button reset
    3. Updated all Windows
    4. Downloaded all drivers and firmware (and installed) - 4 times
    5. Used UEMI Restore
    6. Done the command prompt as you instructed RestoreHealth

I also note other users have completely reinstalled windows and that didn't fix the problem

    Please help!

    Nick

I just went through it again (to get to UEFI - cannot do it the way you said, but the two-button restart brings it up). Still the same problem

I am totally fed up - please help!

    Nick

PS The irony that I am having to use my mac in order to type up these details and get help from MS...
