Surface Pro 4 Keyboard not working / type cover keyboard driver missing

Hi.

I have a surface Pro 4 and the type cover keyboard is not working. 

The driver has gone missing (just shows HID keyboard device) so I can't do what the other forums have said an uninstall the driver.

I have installed the SP4 driver updates and still not working.

I also did the two-button restart and disabled/enabled the keyboard in UEFI. No joy.

I'm on 10.0.18632 Build 18632 MS Windows 10 Pro

Can anyone help with this?

    Glad it helped. Even if it’s only temporary. I have rebooted mine a couple of times and my SP3 seems to still be ok. Hopefully you can get yours to work permanently too. I did completely remove HID Compliant Keyboards and the Wacom Device, from Device Manager, prior to installing the Wacom drivers, maybe that’s it?!?

    Hola Mark.
    Logre hacer que mi teclado funcione nuevamente siguiendo otro método (lo tengo todo escrito, listo para compartir cuando me asegure de que funciona realmente).
    Luego de un reinicio mi teclado dejó de funcionar nuevamente y entonces aproveché para probar el método que encontraste vos. En principió funcionó, pero luego de apagarla y volver a encender mi surface, nuevamente no funcionaba el teclado. Por lo que desinstalé los drivers de Wacom y reinicie la surface, y mi teclado seguia sin funcionar. Lo que hice fue reemplazar los archivos de las carpetas de drivers en system32 con las carpetas que copié en el momento que volvio a funcionar mi teclado, y luego de un reinicio volvió a funcionar.
    Sinceramente estoy un poco desconcertado sobre cual es la razón real de la falla, pero creo que tiene que ver con un problema de drivers.
    Actualmente me encuentro haciendo pruebas y generar diferentes puntos de restauración a medida que avanzo con las actualizaciones, los mantendré al tanto si logro un funcionamiento estable del typecover.
    Gracias de todas formas por la ayuda, sin dudas que igualmente me ha servido, al menos para seguir descartando opciones.

    Hi Janette,

    I have the same issue and it came back to work following your suggestion.

    1.) Press and hold the power button until the screen turns off (about 10 seconds), then release the power button.

    2.) Press and release the power button to turn your Surface back on. You should see the Surface logo.

    Wait until the desktop is ready, pull off the type cover and then put it back on. Then, the type cover is working.
