Surface Pro 4 Keyboard not working / type cover keyboard driver missing

Hi.

I have a surface Pro 4 and the type cover keyboard is not working.

The driver has gone missing (just shows HID keyboard device) so I can't do what the other forums have said an uninstall the driver.

I have installed the SP4 driver updates and still not working.

I also did the two-button restart and disabled/enabled the keyboard in UEFI. No joy.

This is really frustrating. Other people have this issue:

I'm on 10.0.18632 Build 18632 MS Windows 10 Pro

Can anyone help with this?

I had to re-do the process every time my surface went to sleep/shutdown. I just found out another alternative that worked:

Go to Settings > Devices > USB > Untick Stop devices when my screen is off to help save battery.

I had the same issue about a 1 year ago. I tried everything on this forum for suggestions but could not get my surface pro 4 type cover to work except in bios. Finally a moderator named Marrion Y on December 26, 2020 gave me the following suggestion.

She said to reinstall a fresh Windows image on the device using a USB Recovery Image. This option will reimage the entire device and reload Windows including the drivers and firmware. It is the most complete form of Reset and it will wipe out everything on the device. You will need also a 16GB/32GB of flash drive that must be formatted into FAT32 prior to downloading the Recovery Image.  Marrion Y followed this up with a detailed procedure that you can look up. It worked and the type cover has worked fine ever since.

Perfect ! I've dedicated a lot of time to it, encouraged notably by the fact it was working in the bios !

People that search solution to this problem should first verify mouse and arrow keys are working in the bios.

If it's not the case, no process in windows will help as it's very probably an hardware issue.

Hi, sorry it didn't work, despite many people meet success with it.

Did you catch well the step 03 that is important to be able to see the item in the list ?

Adding a step 00 as reinstalling windows (without keeping files) can help, as someone reported he had to do it for having success with the procedure.
