Surface Pro 4 Keyboard not working / type cover keyboard driver missing

Happy to read that! At last, you have your Surface fully operative. 

In my case, I tried to restore from 0 using the image downloaded from Micro$oft and it doesn't work. I don't remember if I tried to format the hard disc, but Install from USB image, and after that I tested keyboard on every update (as image was a old version of Windows 10), but still doesn't work.

I am not sure, but probably doing a rollback doesn't "downgrade" firmware, only drivers. And maybe I2C devices could stay unreachable by S.O. 

I understand that this things could happen, but the response of M$ is unacceptable.

Formatting a 16 Gb usb and then downloading the image from MS, did work for me.   My surface type cover is now working.  I had previously tried everything I could find on the internet before doing this.  One more thing of note, my surface type cover did work when I booted to repair mode... I think it is called UEFI.    To get to UEFI Bios- Windows 10 Print

Click the Start menu and select Settings.

Select Update and Security.

Click Recovery.

Under Advanced startup, click Restart now. ...

Select Troubleshoot.

Choose Advanced options.

Select UEFI Firmware Settings.

Click Restart to restart the system and enter UEFI (BIOS).

In this mode, my surface type cover worked.

From that I knew that the surface type cover hardware was in working order.  It told me that there was software problem somewhere.   Obviously if the hardware is broken then a new image would not help.

Im with you! I replaced my keyboard thinking that was the problem so now I have two keyboard and still a problem. I did find a thread talking about the problem. It started with a firm wear update but to the best of my knowledge they still have not done anything to fix it nor have I gotten a response for from MS either. I've tried restores MULTIPLE times which did not work. Frankly if I wanted to use a tablet, I'd use my tablet. They way it is I can't even use the surface pro for work which is what its for.

They may make an Apple convert of me yet!

But most of times, the problem comes also with other sensors: 

• Are rotation sensor working? 
• Are ilumination sensor working?
• Are GPS sensor working? 

In my case, at last rotation is not working also (ilumination I think that also doesn't work, but is more dificult to check). I can't use virtual reality now, because it needs all sensor. I can't use it as a tablet also, because it not rotate if I put the device vertically. 

So I paid for a "high end device"? And moreover, M$ is not responding to any claim anymore. Good luck. Never again.

Will this process works if the type C keyboard is not appearing in UEFI BIOS? In my case, the type C cover keyboard is not showing in "Device Manager" and "UEFI BIOS". Please advice.

I totally agree with you in sense of Microsoft does not care about this whole unpleasant situation, but for me it's seems to be a software problem that it can be solved doing rollback through the process I mentioned.

Just to let you all 'updated', since my last experience of Formatting, Installing Recovery Image, Updates, Updates and so on, my Type Cover has returned and working properly right after updated to Version 1703 - OS Build 15063 -  just to highlight that before this recovery process, my previous build was 19042.

Since then, I did put all automatic upgrades on PAUSE.
