Surface Pro 4 Keyboard not working / type cover keyboard driver missing

Hi.

I have a surface Pro 4 and the type cover keyboard is not working. 

The driver has gone missing (just shows HID keyboard device) so I can't do what the other forums have said an uninstall the driver.

I have installed the SP4 driver updates and still not working.

I also did the two-button restart and disabled/enabled the keyboard in UEFI. No joy.

I'm on 10.0.18632 Build 18632 MS Windows 10 Pro

Can anyone help with this?

    Hi again

    I'm not sure why you/ microsoft are ignoring this.

    Just to add to my problems:

    I cannot make the on-screen keyboard appear automatically when I touch into a type-in field. So that means every time I go to start etc I have to manually press the icon on the bottom right task bar.

    So annoying. 

    There is clearly something really wrong with the drivers, even though I have installed them.

    So not only is the type cover not working properly, but the in-screen keyboard is failing too.

    Poor show, Microsoft, poor show.

    Hi

    Yes I had the same update I think (it took ages). But I didn't get that promising (yet deflating!) prompt about the type cover keyboard installation.

    I have seen lots and lots of references to this problem in various forums - some from quite a while ago.

    I hate being stuck with essentially a redundant device. Bought a surface precisely because it had the type cover keyboard.

    I moved to mac because I had such bad experiences with Microsoft, and thought I'd give MS a second chance with my surface. Never again.

    I'm worried the next thing I'm going to be told to do is reinstall windows (and have to reinstall all my other software etc) when there is a lot of evidence, yours included, that this will do nothing.

    So come on Microsoft: Give me a solution or give me a new machine.

    Hi, NickHopwood.

    It is odd that there is no Update & Security section in your Surface Pro 4's Settings. You said you tried the Surface UEFI, can you use the mouse and keys in there or not?

    Please run the system file checker to detect corrupted files and repair it. Please get to this page to be guided on Using System File Checker in Windows 10****.

    This helps detect corrupted drivers and repair it. This also inspects all of the important Windows files on your computer, including Windows DLL files. If System File Checker finds a problem with any of these protected files, it will replace it.

    If the issue persists, update the drivers and firmware.

    Check what is the current OS Build of your Windows version by going to Settings > System > About.

    Go to Download driver and firmware for Surface, choose Surface Pro 4 then click Download on the next page.

    Choose the .msi file that matches your current OS Build and click Next. If it doesn't match, choose the one that is nearest to it. 

    After downloading, run and install the .msi then Restart.
