surface book battery drain while shut down

I have been noticing that when I shutdown my surface book, when I power it on the next day the battery has drained some. If I leave it off for a couple of days it will drain down from 100% to around 85% or lower.

I disabled fast startup... and then just decided to disable hibernation altogether. That didn't help.

I have windows hello disabled, but that shouldn't matter anyway since I'm shutting it down, not sleeping.

Some searching and I found a general windows 10 issue with the "Intel Management Engine Interface" driver. Some say that v11 can cause this issue. One solution that I have seen suggested is to go into device manager and in the power management tab for this device uncheck the option that allows windows to power it down to save power. I tried that and it didn't help.

Others have suggested downgrading the driver from v11 to v9 or v10, but I don't know where to get v9 or v10 of this driver that is compatible with the surface book. Anyone know if one of the downloads on Intel's site would be compatible?

So, has anyone else noticed this issue and know of a fix?

Microsoft, I don't understand why my post was merged into this one.... this one is about battery drain issues during sleep.

As I have stated (in the quote above from my original post) my issue is battery drain during SHUT DOWN.... NOT sleep.

I detached from the base and left it that way for a couple of days.  I then reattached it and started it up and the battery was still at 100%.

I just now shut it down and detached it again, but this time I reattached it.  I'm going to leave it shutdown again for a while and see if it drains the battery still.

I doubt it is the release button that is draining the power.  That shouldn't require any (or at least very very little) power to work (definitely should not be draining 5%-10%+ battery per day).  If it is the release button that is the issue, that is a major design flaw.

Either way I hope this can be fixed via a firmware or software update.

Microsoft people, can we get some sort of official response on this issue??

Update: So after trying shutdown -> detach -> reattach and letting it sit for a day, I still see the battery drain issue.

So:

shutdown -> leave attached = battery drain

shutdown -> detach and leave detached = no battery drain

shutdown -> detach -> reattach = batter drain

Leaving it detached is NOT a reasonable solution.

You managed to pick out a post I made 9 months ago for a comment? The state of the operating system has changed quite a bit from that time. 

Nine months ago connected standby was not working the way it should and I was getting no battery drain while completely turned off. I had to totally shut down overnight back then because Sleep/Hibernate didn't work at all.

Since the June 20th update Sleep/Hibernate is working like it should and connected standby is working like it should. I no longer totally shut down and Sleep/Hibernate is now reliable. There is a small battery drain while sleeping, just as there should be during connected standby. At this point in time I can easily get through a work day when away from my office and on battery.

I'm sorry you are having problems. Being an early adopter, from the day the Surface Book was first released, I've gone through the same frustrations as everyone else. Today my Surface Book is finally working the way it should have when I first got it.

No, I don't work for Microsoft.

As was stated in the question asked in November of 2015, the issue is power drain when the computer is off, not while in stand-by.  I'm sure you're a nice guy Gary, but the information you've added is irrelevant.

Same here. What's up guys/gals?? I paid over $3K for this and I love it but the battery literally drains about 10-15% or more daily when it's SHUT DOWN; not sleeping, hibernating, etc. Literally shut off. How it that even possible?

I have noticed this happening since I received my surface book.

I installed all updates last night after posting this.  I can confirm the battery drain is still happening.

I checked for updates just now and the only update was a windows defender definition update, which will have to effect on this issue.

I'm shutting down via Start -> Power -> Shutdown.

Hibernation is disabled (and therefore fast startup is too), so when I shutdown it should be fully shutting down.  However, the battery drain seems to indicate to me that some piece of hardware is staying powered on (or in some sort of standby state).
