surface book battery drain while shut down

After 10 months of trying to work around the issues on my Surface Book I have finally decided that enough is enough. Microsoft either cannot fix the problems on this device or doesn't care to. The overheating problem is gone, thankfully, but battery drain problem still exists. I unplugged in from my power adapter at work on Friday evening, put it to sleep and when I opened it Monday morning it did not have enough power to wake up. When I plugged it in and started it up the system had completely shut down (all apps were closed). Couple this with the fact that I can no longer plug in an external display and I am done. I've installed every update hoping that each will be the one that finally returns two of the most important capabilities back to my machine (I used to be able to use an external display and the battery life used to be decent - never as good as advertised). So I am done. I am fortunate that my employer will buy me a new machine because my productivity is important to them. I genuinely feel badly for having asked them to take a chance by buying me an unproven machine and then getting burned (thankfully not literally though some of the #hotbags I experienced felt like they were scary close to that) by the decision. I'm going back to a Lenovo because I know they work as advertised. Good riddance Microsoft. May this entire debacle hasten your decision to get out of the hardware business where you have no business being.

Do we know if Microsoft monitors this forum? I don't recall seeing anyone from Microsoft weigh in on this.

I'm on my second Surface Book and it's the same problem.  In 24 hours of being shutdown I went to 92% overall battery but if you look it was at 86% on battery 2 (the clipboard) and 98% on the base.  So basically completely off the clipboard loses 14% of the battery in 24 hours.  It's obviously something is still drawing a pretty substantial power.  I know the rumor is the clipboard release might be the cause but it's something that needs to be addressed.  That much power loss when a device is shutdown is ridiculous.  Other laptops have had the power drain issue and it was always a BIOS/firmware update to fix it.

I doubt that it is related to the clipboard release as we're seeing the same issue (excessive battery drain during sleep and even shutdown) on the Surface Pro 4.  Most of the guts of the two models are common, especially the firmware and drivers.  I tend to agree with your BIOS/firmware assumption.

The more we Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book owners raise **** (you know what, expletive delete) the more likelihood that something will be corrected -- or Microsoft will buy back all of our devices.

Any word on IF AND WHEN Microsoft will fix and/or address the following issues with SurfaceBook?

1. Severe battery drain (even while hibernating or turned off)
2. Intel Driver Errors
3. Constant blue screens ('watchdog' errors and others)
4. Other stuff...

??

I need to know within a week or I'll have to think about a return. Can a moderator here please address me on these issues and when they might be addressed? Time is running out for us early adopters, and I would really hate to say I had to return a cutting-edge device with such potential.

Yes, I am aware of the difference between sleep and shutdown.  I also know how to shutdown, I am fully shutting it down not just closing the lid.  I don't see how that is relevant to this post, but thank you regardless.
