surface book battery drain while shut down

Have you ever found a solution to your problem? I noticed that my battery is also draining when I completely shut it down. It went from 100% to 95% after about 24 hours of shut down (not hibernate and not sleep). I hope Microsoft acknowledges this problem and finds a solution to this.

Also does anyone know if the battery drains at all after hibernating for a day or more?

After skimming the  11 pages, it sounds like people who put it on hibernate experience 0 battery drain? which almost sounds weird if shutting down the surface completely causes battery drain, but hibernate doesn't.

Yes, I am aware of the difference between sleep and shutdown.  I also know how to shutdown, I am fully shutting it down not just closing the lid.  I don't see how that is relevant to this post, but thank you regardless.

Yes, I just re-read your posts.  Of course. you are aware of the difference and you already said so.

I was also just now reading from some of the other threads in the forum regarding battery issues and apparently not everyone understands the difference.  There was a time when I didn't know the difference.  Lots of people read these posts and I was just trying to say something I thought might be helpful to someone.  And I thank you too for being diplomatic about my rather redundant post.  :-)

When I hover over the power icon in the Start menu, a popup tells me that sleep uses low power and keeps apps open.  That means I should see a battery "drain" over time as sleep never really shuts my computer off.  I also see that the default is to keep Wi-Fi open while sleeping.  Keeping in touch with Wi-Fi would also require the use of some power.

If I'm going to put my Surface Book in my Messenger Bag, I always choose "Shut Down" in the power options, as I don't want any accidental overheating.  "Shut Down" actually does turn off the power whereas the default "Sleep", when you just close the lid, really doesn't.

I detached from the base and left it that way for a couple of days.  I then reattached it and started it up and the battery was still at 100%.

I just now shut it down and detached it again, but this time I reattached it.  I'm going to leave it shutdown again for a while and see if it drains the battery still.

I doubt it is the release button that is draining the power.  That shouldn't require any (or at least very very little) power to work (definitely should not be draining 5%-10%+ battery per day).  If it is the release button that is the issue, that is a major design flaw.

Either way I hope this can be fixed via a firmware or software update.

Microsoft people, can we get some sort of official response on this issue??

Can you verify if you get any drain by disconnecting the base and shutting down as just the clipboard?

I noticed that you can always detach/reattach the base, even when shutdown, by using the physical release button, and I was seeing connected standby drains from the USB over the base.

I'm guessing the base ends up draining a lot of power while shutdown, since it must be able to unlock the friction mechanism.
