Hi. I had some folders shared from different users in my OneDrive account. I had added the folders to my OneDrive with Add Shortcut to OneDrive button from Shared folders in cloud. The account is logged into a windows pc and every files including the folders shared with my were syncing fine until yesterday. Yesterday night the shared folders were completely removed from the Windows pc and folders are replaced with internet shortcut. This is such a big mess. I have tried unlinking the account and linking it back, changing the location of OneDrive on my windows pc and tried to get a new folder shared to my account and adding it to OneDrive. Nothing works so far. OneDrive has a big part in my daily activities. Please help me resolve this.

Here is the statement from the Microsoft OneDrive product group (Redmond USA) about the OneDrive Personal problem:

***This is related to a backend migration we are doing and unfortunately, we don’t fully support syncing shared folders in the case where one user has migrated and the other has not. We’re doing everything possible to accelerate things so that it can be resolved as soon as possible for users of the feature. When the accounts are migrated, there is automated logic that makes them go back to a syncing folder within several days.***I have heard, that shared Folder issue is gone.
The best thing is: WAIT and do nothing

This issue has recurred. I noticed this 24th Feb 2025.

Can we have an ETA on the fix on this repeat issue please.

Someone has found a temporary fix for this issue please see the post

Really ??? First of all this solution is for IT Gurus... (ok I may be able to do it, however there are millions of users, that can't. And secondly, I am not even sure that it's gonna work...!

I agree that you do have to have a bit of knowledge to be able to create a mapped drive but at the moment Microsoft are offering no solution at all and it seems even well knowledgeable people are stumped. I have managed to map network drives to three of the shares that were shared to me and it works. Also the underlying issue appears to be that MS are in the process of upgrading OneDrive accounts and if one person is on a different version (old v new) then the issue will arise. Once MS have migrated everyone the issue should be fixed but this could be some time away

Yes, I too need to open files in a shared folder locally, on my Windows computer.

Online only does not do it. Do you think you are Google?

This issue is caused by people purchasing the 5-PC family plan and are trying to use it for business. The Business OneDrive shares and operates as normal. Microsoft stopped supporting sharing of OneDrive personal (part of the 5-PC Family/Home Plan) as it was being abused. We have had to convert our clients to OneDrive for business where the sharing IS working as prescribed.

It is not a technical issue, rather a removal of a feature that was abused for roughly $100 per year. Granted, Microsoft handled this poorly. They should have indicated that they no longer support sharing of OneDrive of the residential product.
