OneDrive crashes and deletes itself

On my laptop OneDrive (which has been working flawlessly for years) now crashes at random. It won't restart.  In fact it seems the exe file has disappeared.  I need to unistall it and reinstall it.  Had to do this three times in the last three days.

There are no error messages - the icon just disappears.

How do I diagnose and cure this?

    I have a user with the same issue over here. I just had him uninstall Malwarebytes, remove Office 2016, reinstall O16, and re-sync. We'll see how he fares over next few days. I'd really like an official statement from MSFT on this one.. pretty rough.

    I've been away for a while... only had my chromebook with me.

    Just come back.  But how do you exclude things in Windows Defender - can't find that setting....
