Outlook on android - receiving notifications, but emails don't show in inbox.

I use outlook for android (Motorola Moto G running Android 5.1) and it worked great until a couple of days ago. Now I get notifications of new emails, but the messages don't show up in my inbox. If I click a notification to try and read the email, it says 'Couldn't open message', and takes me back to my inbox, which shows only old messages.

Please help!

I had been experiencing the same issue with my S8 for the past three months, following the same workarounds/fixes discussed on this thread as far back as 2015! Many of us have been frustrated for years. I saw a post indentifying the battery optimization setting in the authenticator app as the root cause. I went to settings on my phone and used voice search to locate the app and in my case, as soon I opened it I saw a red notice on settings. Which confirmed the app was set in battery optimization mode and when I turned it off both the notifications and my emails came in as expected. I will monitor and post an update here in one week to let you know if the fix held. I'm also going to copy and paste this on that first thread where I found this suggestion.... YOU ARE MY HERO!

I find that my Microsoft Teams app on my phone stops working at the same time as the email so perhaps this is something to do with authentication?

I don't think so. I can reproduce the issue with both Microsoft Outlook email account and my own IMAP mail server that is independent of Microsoft infrastructure. The bug is there for a long time.

There is also additional side-effect, the red dot notification badge also doesn't work when a new message arrives. But when you open the Outlook app second time, it is there.

I don't get Microsoft still haven't fixed it.

I have had the same issue for a few months on my Galaxy S10. I have a pretty large inbox so resetting the account and downloading all the messages took an extremely long time.

I have found recently that just restarting my phone gets the emails working again for a short while before stopping again. A real pain.

This doesn't work.  Reinstalling the app only works for a couple of hours,  then emails stop coming in.

This needs to be resolved Microsoft, it is absolutely not acceptable!
