Outlook on android - receiving notifications, but emails don't show in inbox.

I use outlook for android (Motorola Moto G running Android 5.1) and it worked great until a couple of days ago. Now I get notifications of new emails, but the messages don't show up in my inbox. If I click a notification to try and read the email, it says 'Couldn't open message', and takes me back to my inbox, which shows only old messages.

Please help!

The app is free but offers a premium option which I didn't find necessary. It fully integrates with 365 calendar etc. It set up easily. I have been very happy with it for 5 mos.

    I simply switched to

Edison Mail+ android. Far better app

    Isn't that a paid app?
Does it fully integrate with Office 365? Calendars and appointments, the whole works?

I hate the thought of paying for an app when I pay for the Office 365 subscription. I think an App or a suitable mobile web access should be included, but at this point I'd be willing to consider overlooking Edison mails privacy practices for a consistently working email app.
