Office Home and Business 2013 is now blank under "file size" in Programs and Features following the June 11 Microsoft update.  How do I recover it?

I was responding from a smart phone sorry.  It means I'm in a mood and I need to email someone I know from Microsoft and get the true word on this.  C2R updates include security updates.  Security update issues are a free call.  No one should be charged for Microsoft's mess up.  No one should be charged for issues with a security update.

So hang loose while I ask someone how EXACTLY is someone to get free support for something caused by Microsoft.

    Bullpucky  hang loose

    OK, I'll bite...  <grin>

That reply is a little too cryptic.  Could you expand on it ...

Only 45 min, that is nothing.  Call again, there are people who really do help.  Rather than calling, you may want to try the chat line. Same people, but you don't have to listen to "elevator muzak".  Also at the start of the process ask for a trouble ticket number. That way they know you are serious, that you know something about the process and you have a reference number to refer to when they eventually 'accidentally' hang up on you ... <sigh>

Twitter - Make your Pain Public, maybe then MS will fix the problem

Sorry, there is no good answer to that. If you, and all the others with this problem start tweeting it, making it more public, maybe then MS will finally be inspired to find the fix to the problem.

Microsoft has a number of dedicated teams that do this kind of support explicitly: @WinPhoneSupport@XboxSupport@MicrosoftHelps@WindowsSupport.

Social media teams on @Office@Surface, and @Microsoft

Granted, since this specific problem is already public, this tactic may not be as effective as it usually is ...

    Online chat support: **http://answerdesk.microsoftstore.com/AnswerTech******

I recently used online chat support myself. I found it had several advantages over phone support, even though you still contact the same outsourced, support personnel:

    • Provides instant time stamped transcript
    • When you get transferred to the “right” person, they can review the history
    • If they don’t read history, you can copy / paste the past conversation to them, saving you having to repeat yourself
    • They are more likely to go off line to ask other people for help (good for you)
    • You don’t have to listen to “elevator muzak” when they are off line
    • You have 2 hands free to surf the web when they are not talking to you.

For some reason, I found that waiting for online chat responses intrinsically frustrating than listening to elevator muzak.

Make sure to copy the text from the chat window and save it before closing the chat window. It is handy to have a timestamped copy of the conversation, if only to publish it on the internet ... <evil grin>

You could try OffCat.exe. I don't expect it to work since there is no fix published yet. BUT, maybe it will find a prerelease hotfix for the problem ...

    V1.1

    **http://4sysops.com/archives/free-microsoft-offcat-office-configuration-analyzer-tool-1-1/** Review of V1.1

    Works with Office 2003-2013/365

The Microsoft Office Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT) is a program that provides a detailed report of your installed Office programs. It scans one application at a time This report includes many parameters about your Office program configuration and highlights known problems found when OffCAT scans your computer. For any problems that are listed in the report, you are provided with a link to a public-facing article (usually a Microsoft Knowledge Base article) on the issue so you can read about possible fixes for the problem. If you are a Help Desk professional, you can also save the report to file so that the report can be viewed in the Office Configuration Analyzer Tool on another client where the tool is installed.

You can download a portable copy in ZIP format, or an MSI Installation file (Personally I prefer the ZIP installation).

    Over 300 detection rules

At last count (2013 Sept), there were over 230 different detection rules for Outlook in the OCAT tool. All of these rules are included in OffCAT, plus at least 20 new rules for Outlook. As the OffCAT tool is not only focused on Outlook, there are an additional 70+ rules for other Office programs.

Hi Susan - just spent 45 minutes with MS support helpdesk - said that, as I was out of warranty, I would have to pay for a new warranty and they would then access my system remotely as it sounded like a corrupted registry.  When I said that I knew that this was not just an isolated incident with my computer and that I was aware that 1% of MS users were affected he said, ok I'll send you a link.  He just sent me a link to the usual MS website troubleshooter page.  Cannot believe what is happening.
