Office 2013 missing after June 11 Microsoft auto upates

Ellie, this is their messup and Microsoft support should help you out.

Can you contact the Microsoft answer desk, explain the situation and see if they will help you for no charge?  If they won't comp the case, let me know.

I'm really struggling with this.  I have tried all the repairs etc and the uninstall using the Fixit and then re-installing but nothing is working.  I've also looked at restoring to before the update but I don't seem to have an option to restore before 12 June 2014 - why is this?  Am Iooking in the wrong place?  I have only 3 options for a restore date - and they are all on or after 12th June.  Help!

You should check to see how much disc space is being used by System Restore. It may be set so low that it can only hold a couple Restore Points and thus you can only go back a couple. And I am supposing that you do not have a full backup from an earlier time? Not just a System Restore but a Full Backup of the Drive.

If you reboot and cannot run the Fixit program and have it work, you may have to reinstall Windows to repair whatever is wrong. Or run system repair if you can get into Safe Mode and you have created a System Repair disc. Make sure you use the correct Fixit tool and do it after a reboot. You may have to go in and turn off any service that might be related to Office which would prevent uninstall. If you want the version of the Fixit I used here is the link to where I placed it so my friends could get the correct one for sure. The following information is my experience and knowledge, which may not be correct  and useful to others !!!

Jun 11 Window Update may did nothing to the Office 2013 updates, I find that Office 2013 has its own update that does not present in the Window Update !!!!!!

At this point (i.e. Jun 15 noon) I still do not receive any reply from MS support about the fix (without un-install Office) or find any solutions from guru in web.

After searching and reading Internet articles, here is my solutions and make Office back to work again:

1. my office after Jun 11 (Office its own update), fail to start, unable to change, repair, un-install via Control Panel
2. download and install this to remove Office totally from your hardware

3. login office account to get the installer again

http://office.microsoft.com/myaccount

4. once installation completed and Office works again. I disable the Office update:

File -> Account -> Update

If you have other Office not affect, maybe it is not yet updated, so disable update temporary should be done immediately, until MS issue the resolution !!!!

I also check that the Office version is the latest release 15.0.4623.1003 according to this info

This information that they finally posted and you got hold of is simply a regurgitation of what many have been posting here from almost day one. Everything from using the cleanup utility to turning off updates immediately upon reinstall has been known pretty much from the very start. Go back and look at some of the posts from as far back as I think the 12th.  Finally MS came around to admitting everything and made a public announcement that simply stated what we have already posted about the temp fix and that they now are aware of it. Even the part about it being Office updates and not Windows updates is something I posted about in one of my first messages and said to turn it off. So they are just making official the data they have gleaned from speaking with us and from reading this forum. If you go back and read through this entire forum you will find the information in that "announcement" throughout, even word for word. So they aren't really impressing me still with how they are handling this. Now that it has been announced everybody else is getting in on the act and putting it on their website so that they can get extra credit. First, since something similar happened on an earlier update for a subset of users they should have been more careful about testing it before releasing it. But they are using us as the beta testers and then fixing it when they get enough complaints. Not cool. A multi-billion dollar company should be able to do better than this. If you note how they dealt with the early callers it was less than ideal. Now that it is affecting the 1% I guess it warrants a look. 2 years ago over 1 billion people were using Office. That number is growing. But even if it is still just 1 billion and lets say that only 20% have upgraded to Office 2013, then that 1% represents 2,000,000 users.  So even if just 1% are affected, it is enough people that you could populate an enormous city or even a state or small country. So, I am not impressed at all with how they have chosen to handle this. So many people got put off by them at first and that isn't right. Now with so many affected they are going to help us out. That is a big conglomeration for you. And although I am sure you didn't realize it, you have posted what seems like new information, but is really just a repeat of what we have been saying all along and they are just now coming to admit. So it seems like a ground breaking piece of information.

Sorry to all MS fans out there. I know most only want to hear good things about MS on this forum, but they really dropped the ball on this one and they need to start being called out on the way they deal with these bugs and problems. If you went to a mechanic because your car leaked out all of its oil, would you be happy if they just put in more oil without fixing the leak? You would just have to get more oil when that leaked out too. No, you would expect the problem to be fixed so it didn't leak anymore. But MS gets away with just getting you on the road again and not fixing the problem until they get so many unhappy customers that they they decide to address the underlying problem, which should be the first step. I apologize if I offend anyone, but I have been in the industry for over 30 years and run many businesses and in many IT positions and I feel like my words here are very accurate.
