I just tried OneNote for a Mac.
I noticed that there is no way to load or save a local OneNote file.
I've been using OneNote on a PC for years. Really like it a lot. Was hoping to
now use it on my Mac.
I don't know why OneNote is setup this way. I can't even load my existing personal
files from the Mac. The decision to use a cloud service should be mine and not forced into
it. Even Evernote lets me store locally.
I use it for both personal and work related projects. I cannot put work projects out on
a public cloud repository so this new version is a no go for work. At this point I think
I'll look at Mac equivalents to OneNote and convert to something else.....
Free is great, but I would pay for a fully functional Mac version of OneNote. Please reconsider
local file storage.

You've excluded the entire enterprise market by forcing OneDrive usage.
I agree! I can't understand Microsoft's arrogance in this. Give me the cloud as an option, encourage me to use it, but NEVER force it down my throat. There are certain things I wish I could keep in OneNote but I will never put on the cloud. I don't care how good you think your security is, I won't do it.
Yes, there are certain features that only work with cloud storage, but I don't use them, ever.
Saving/Opening files on local storage is the most basic functionality. It's just not that hard! If your programmers can't do it then call me. I can. If they have architected the product such that it can't be done then fire them for cause and the manager who allowed it. I'm a little overboard here but I want you to understand my frustration with your decision. I love OneNote on the PC. I have used it at work for years...saving files locally! I wanted to use it at home on my Mac. You are forcing me to your competition. Congrats...
As the sysadmin for a fortune 50 company with a large mac presence, this release has been a complete disappointment. Due to regulatory reasons, we can not store any information in the cloud, and I am having to tell all of my users that we will not be using onenote on the Apple platform because local storage is not supported.
Can't believe that OneNote for Mac limits user to working in the cloud. I want to work locally (on files created in the Windows version). Program is useless to me without this functionality.
I totally agree, we need option to save files locally, i was really excited for this app & i would have paid to get this app, i was so disappointed that i can't store files on local HDD, i can't save my OneNote files in a public cloud, even syncing files to SharePoint will not help either, i think MS is taking this cloud thing too far, its nice to have the option to save/sync files to cloud & across multiple devices, but MS should know better about regulations/restrictions.
