No local file storage for OneNote on Mac version?

I just tried OneNote for a Mac.
I noticed that there is no way to load or save a local OneNote file.
I've been using OneNote on a PC for years. Really like it a lot. Was hoping to
now use it on my Mac.
I don't know why OneNote is setup this way. I can't even load my existing personal
files from the Mac. The decision to use a cloud service should be mine and not forced into
it. Even Evernote lets me store locally.
I use it for both personal and work related projects. I cannot put work projects out on
a public cloud repository so this new version is a no go for work. At this point I think
I'll look at Mac equivalents to OneNote and convert to something else.....
Free is great, but I would pay for a fully functional Mac version of OneNote. Please reconsider
local file storage.
Disappointed.

I was so excited this morning when I got news of the OneNote for Mac release. The main thing I use it for is to access documents that are shared on a local server with PC users. I also get emailed OneNote documents that I need to open. I have been forced to run Parallels solely to access these OneNote files, which is clunky and substantially slows my machine and reduces battery life. This release was a great relief until I actually tried to use it.
Unfortunately, if I can't open a file from my own Mac and network drives, this new version is mostly useless to me. Even for non-shared notebooks, I'm not particularly interested in putting them on Microsoft's servers.
I can't begin to fathom the thought process that would lead Microsoft to create a Mac version of OneNote but not include any way to open OneNote files with it. The main reason one would want to use OneNote instead of another note-taking app on a Mac is for compatibility with PC OneNote documents. Opening files created by the same software on a different platform is THE MOST BASIC functionality, more basic even than the ability to EDIT the files, and it was left out!? Maybe Microsoft is planning to eliminate the ability to open files from Word as well, since it's not something "consumers" really need.
Sorry to be so snide, but this is a huge let down, and I hope that gets passed along to the people managing development of this software. Please let me know when they plan to add this functionality, so I know when to give OneNote for Mac another try.

2014-03-18T02:15:09+00:00 I agree! I've been waiting for MS to provide OneNote for Mac as well as the next version of Office. Windows laptops are provided at work and I do a lot of research and find OneNote really fits the bill. However, for personal R&D projects and research I use a Mac. I was disappointed to see that this version of OneNote basically forces you into the cloud.
Until this is resolved I will continue to use Outline. It is very very similar to OneNote and lets you create local notebooks and sync them to drop box, skydrive if desired. There are also apps for iPad.
