Error 1920. Service osppsvc failed to start

I would suggest, if you haven't already done so, to do a clean boot before attempting to install Office 2010 again.  Most of the time the methods above resolve the issue.  However, some antimalware/registry protection applications can block access to the registry and prevent legitimate applications like Office from completing setup.  By doing a clean boot you can (usually) bypass them from loading and it may allow setup to complete.  If you are still unsuccessful, I suggest you call 1-800-Microsoft for some assisted support since it may be too complicated to resolve in a public forum.  Microsoft does not charge for support when attempting to install our products, so the call is free and the support is free. :-)

I have Windows 7 Ultimate, trying to install Office Pro Plus 2010

Changing to the Local System account makes the error go away, but the Office 2010 installation just proceeds to rollback the installation and terminate with the cryptic and unhelpful message "Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 encountered an error during setup."

This is very unhelpful.  There are no links or buttons on the failure dialog to give me any additional info or offer support.  Basically, it's a "you're screwed, buddy -- BYE!" kind of message.  This is NOT the kind of Microsoft that people learn to love.

So looks like it gave the install up, tried to repair Office 2007 and failed with that too,n well that is at least my guess.

BTW I have XP 32 bit and tried to install with the X16-32254.exe file I downloaded, oh and I'm a HUP customer too. Luckily I also ordered the DVD so I hope when that arrives and I try to install it again that will work. Oh and Office 2007 seams to still work.

The DVD came yesterday and the try to upgrade with it leaded to the same errors. Looks like it is not possible to upgrade Office 2007 with Office 2010. My next try will probably be to make a clean installation of Office 2010 and no upgrade. The other way to go would be just leave Office 2007 but I think that would be not legal cause I think the license for Office 2007 runs out soon or I use Open Office instead, after all Office 2007 sucked, I only really like Outlook. In fact I think the best Office was 2003 anyway after that after that Vista and Office 2007 both the same, shiny but barley working. I just hope Office 2010 will be a bit like Windows 7, that really is a great OS. Well I hope that a clean install of Office 2010 works and I like it.

The only thing why I wanted to upgrade is Outlook, but I hope I can export the mails from Outlook 2007 and import them to 2010.
