Error 1920. Service osppsvc failed to start

I obtained Microsoft Officew Professional Plus 2010 for home use via the Home Use Program. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. When I try loading Office I get the following error message:

Error 1920. Service 'Office Software Protection Platform' (osppsvc) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.

I have administrator privileges on my computer. So I need help resolving this issue.

Open Run (Press Windows key + R) > type services.msc and click on OK

On the services MMC window right-click on Office Software Protection Platform and select Properties

Select the LOG ON tab > change the ‘Log on as’ information from ‘This Account’ (Network Service) to ‘Local System Account’

Click on Apply and OK

    I have been fighting with this 1920 error for a half of the day by trying various settings and suggestions from the web sites. Nothing worked until I got mad and did the following steps:

    1. renamed all Microsoft Office - related folders to *OLD including the \Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform folder
    2. Downloaded and installed a free Registry cleaner
    3. Cleaned the registry and rebooted the PC
    4. Guess what? The Office was installed successfully.

    Yes, this is ridiculous. The original poster even mentioned that it's Win7 Home Premium and I think the majority of us on here with this problem are using this same operating system. I'm also having the problem and I've tried everything in this thread to no avail. My particular situation involved unistalling the Office 2010 beta first and then trying to install Office 2010 Professional but I can't get past the "Error 1920. Service 'Office Software Protection Platform' (osppsvc) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."

    The 'Offoce Software Protection Platform' doesn't exist on the machine I am having problems with.  How do I obtain it?

    This is for a Windows XP machine.
