I was able to fix this without creating another profile.  Unfortunately you have to do this every single time you want to print an envelope.

Select Mailings then Select Labels (do not select Envelopes yet)

In the Print Dialog Box change the label setting to a Single Label

Change both the Row and Column to 1

Now you can select Envelopes,   type in the delivery address and print.

Although I'm sure there must be an easier solution, several online sources suggest that recreating the user profile solves the problem. One way of doing this (I assume) is given at

Some previous replies say that this error can occur if you have added a header or footer to the Normal template, but other users report that this occurs in a "virgin" install of Word 2007.

Another suggestion that is really only a workaround is to use envelope templates rather than the Envelope dialog; for some examples, see http://www.gmayor.com/downloads.htm for some downloadable templates.

FWIW, the "between 1 and 31 (points)" measurement usually refers to the "distance from text" of a border or page border, and I believe this error message is a rather generic one that we have seen in the past in other unrelated situations as well.

    To delete the Word Data registry key, follow these steps:

    1. Exit all Office programs.
    2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
    3. Locate the following registry subkey, as appropriate for the version of Word that you are running:
      • Word 2002:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft \Office\10.0\Word\Data - Word 2003:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ Office\11.0\Word\Data - Word 2007:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ Office\12.0\Word\Data - Word 2010:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Data 4. Click Data, 5. Click Delete on the Edit menu, and then click Yes. 6. Exit Registry Editor. 7. Start Word.

    How to correct:  Click on Mailings.   Click on Labels.  Click on Options.  Click on Details.

    Look at            Number Across  now  change  the 0 to a 1   

                            Number Down   now  change the  0 to a 1

    Click Ok      Back  out.

    Now  Test         Envelopes  Print option

    Click on Mailings   Click on Envelopes  type your  addresses.  Click Print.

    Your Welcome  and  charge.

    I pulled up the template (I have two there, one for 2007 and one for an earlier version of Word - actually BOTH now have the printing problem). BUT when I close out the open document and click OPEN to bring up the the normal template I cannot click to rename the document - it says you cannot rename because the document is 'in use'. I cannot delete it either. So then I tried opening the template and calling up the headers and footers and deleting them - just in case one was added - then I saved it and that still did not solve the problem.  I also tried using the Word install disk to 'repair' and that didn't work either. It's a shame that Microsoft cannot fix this, it seems there are a lot of complaints about it.
