Original title: the number must be between 1 and 31

Every time I try to print a single envelope, the message "the number must be between 1 and 31" pops up.  I can't figure this out.

I was able to fix this without creating another profile.  Unfortunately you have to do this every single time you want to print an envelope.

Select Mailings then Select Labels (do not select Envelopes yet)

In the Print Dialog Box change the label setting to a Single Label

Change both the Row and Column to 1

Now you can select Envelopes,   type in the delivery address and print.

Although I'm sure there must be an easier solution, several online sources suggest that recreating the user profile solves the problem. One way of doing this (I assume) is given at

http://www.omnitechsupport.com/forum/topic/169/when-try-to-print-envelope-get-message-the-number-must-b/

Some previous replies say that this error can occur if you have added a header or footer to the Normal template, but other users report that this occurs in a "virgin" install of Word 2007.

Another suggestion that is really only a workaround is to use envelope templates rather than the Envelope dialog; for some examples, see http://www.gmayor.com/downloads.htm for some downloadable templates.

FWIW, the "between 1 and 31 (points)" measurement usually refers to the "distance from text" of a border or page border, and I believe this error message is a rather generic one that we have seen in the past in other unrelated situations as well.

Thanks evryone for your help - Unfortunately Idid solve my problem, but in the worst possible way. Enjoy the story.

I decided to uninstall and reinstall my Office/Word 2007. While doing so, I realized I still had Office XP on my computer and uninstalled that also. THEN I realized that I still needed Outlook from Office XP so I used the computer's restore feature and restored my computer to before I uninstalled the two programs. Outlet appeared, but did not work and I kept getting a Windows error message - every time I opened ANY program.

Now none of my word programs were working and an error pop-up keep appearing, every time I opened up ANY program. I tried repairing Office but no luck. I tried uninstalling Office, no luck. I tried reinstalling Office, no luck. Finally I backed up everything (well, not everything I later found) and tried a partial System Restore (you know, the one that saves all your files and just removes and restores Windows). Well THAT didn't work, just got a critical error blue screen. Now the computer would not even boot up.

So, I ended up completely wiping my hard drive and reinstalling everything. It took me four days to get current again - but, I am pleased to write, I solved the envelope problem! Special thanks to Doug Robbins for going the extra mile on this.

Can you send me a document to which you have added an envelope and I will take a look and see if I can see anything that will help.

Thanks for the tip - I WAS able to rename the template - unfortunately, that did not solve the problem. The new template still generates the error message. I think I've tried everything now, no luck. Guess I'll have to work around it somehow.
