I have been categorizing my mails and adding the categories to the favorites. When clicking on the category in the favorites it showed me all mails in the category which was fine up to a couple of hours ago. Now it shows nothing. When I click the 3 dots it opens a pop up telling me "X items (0 unread)" but it doesn't show any items. The same goes in outlook.com in the web

So, I have noticed that if you change the category name beforehand and then add your emails to that category, you will be able to view them in the favorites section. There is still a bug, but this may be a temporary fix.
It's happening to me with random categories that have been in my favourites for months (and in one case, over a year) so I don't think that is a cause.

Adding another voice. Having the exact same issue. I'm unfortunately not surprised that Microsoft isn't addressing this.
Just adding to the list. hoping someone will listen. I have the same problem. Both personal and business account. It is very important feature as I rely on the categories to organize my workload
