I received an email stating Update your sign-in technology before September 16th, 2024 to maintain email access. Is this legit or a scam?

On June 11th, 2024, Microsoft communicated that Basic Authentication will no longer be available to access any Outlook account by September 16th, 2024.

We are older seniors using Outlook for an everyday personal account and not for any business related use

In simple terms what do we do to update this change to our email account if its required please

Does it ask you to do anything (like clicking a link) besides informing you to update your sign-in?

I treat all email like a scam but the email seems to agree with the following article:

• Basic Authentication no longer available to access any Outlook account

It's a blanket email sent to everyone with an Outlook.com email account. I got one also. I*n my case, it will likely mean that my old Lumia 928 Windows Phone that I've kept alive with an App Specific Password will quit since App Passwords will not be supported after the change.

I have no issues using my email account and this message pops up. Microsoft should just stop wasting people's time. If their email authentication works for them, then Microsoft should just leave it alone and let people continue to use their email accounts as is.
