New Outlook Not Syncing Read Status for Gmail

Hi, I'm running the new version of Outlook on Windows 11, and have connected to both my Uni (O365) and Gmail (Microsoft Cloud). O365 works fine, but the Gmail account doesn't sync read status back to gmail. I.e. outlook gets the correct read status from Gmail, and it syncs things like starring/flagging emails back to Gmail. But although I can mark things as read in Outlook, that status never syncs back to Gmail. The same is true on 3 different PCs, so it's not peculiar to one particular computer.

Any ideas?

    Not on my OS X client. It is really easy to verify. You send an email from outlook.com/yahoo.com to your Gmail account, read it on your OS X Outlook mail client, and then go to Gmail webmail to verify it is shown as read. For myself, the only problem is with the new Outlook mail client on Windows.

    To avoid the problem, I use the old Outlook mail client on Windows. It works correctly with all my other Outlook mail clients on Android, iOS, and OS X.

    From what I have been seeing, there is no issue with Android Outlook mail client, no issue with iOS Outlook mail client, and no issue with MacOS Outlook mail client. The only issue I have had is with the new Outlook mail client on Windows. I have all of them. Only Windows has problems.

    I note that when I launch New Outlook, there's a message urging me to "Upgrade to Microsoft 365 with premium Outlook features." Meanwhile, Microsoft wants me to use New Outlook so I can provide feedback to them, which I note they never acknowledge receiving.

    My biggest complaint with Outlook is the naming. I have an outlook.com account, and I use Outlook (new), Outlook (PWA), Outlook in Microsoft 365, and Outlook on Android. If I have questions about any of them, searching is a nightmare.

    The outlook is not good that Micrsoft will ever fix the *Outlook* naming problems. Note that I'm using * as a wildcard here.

    You're very welcome, Jim. I like Microsoft products, but I think they've dropped the ball on their mail/calendar/contact apps. And I generally like to support the work that Mozilla does to improve our experiences on the internet.

    Thanks Bob. I installed and configured Thunderbird, and tested the read/unread toggle with gmail and it works as expected. So far so good.
