This is the WORST spam filtering of any of my email programs.

I am constantly getting junk in my inbox and important emails are sent to spam.

Even my upcoming vacation flight emails from delta airlines and other businesses. This is causing havoc and stress I don't need!

What are my options? Increase spam filtering and send more important emails to junk?

Lessen spam filtering and get more junk in my inbox????

I use Yahoo, Gmail and Outlook simultaneously. Outlook is by far the worst. Every day I report the same phishing emails and everyday they keep coming back. "You have Won..." amongst others. I would have to say my Yahoo account seems to work the best, Gmail a not so distant second, outlook is way way way worse for spam. I wonder if Spam people target outlook / Hotmail just because they also know that 90% of their spam and phishing attempts will reach the user.

Which by the way led me to seek out this thread.

    Hello Mancy,

I find that the handling of junk mail in hotmail.com is really bad.

    • I have setting "only trust email from addresses in my safe senders and domains list and safe mailing lists" activated. Yet I receive junk mail in my INBOX not belonging to "my safe senders and domains list and ...". This should not be possible according to the setting.
    • I receive a large amount of junk mail (100-200 a day) which is automatically put in the junk mail folder. I do occasionally receive a mail from a contact which is not yet in the safe senders list, which is also put in the junk mail folder. As a consequence, I need to regularly read my INBOX AND JUNK MAIL to be sure that I do not miss anything. I have the impression that other mailboxes are much better in filtering out junk mail (= not even showing obvious junk mail to the user), in stead of simply moving them in the junk mail folder. E.g. I manually delete all mail from junk mail folder if "no preview is possible" of the content of the message.

I hope you can improve the filtering out of junk mail in hotmail.com

    Kind regards,

    Wim.

I feel your frustration. I got 42 spam emails in my inbox this morning and it was ONLY 9:30AM.

There was a suggestion of forwarding the emails from outlook to gmail to work around this problem if you mostly receive emails with your Outlook. Gmail has excellent filter so it will filter Outlook’s spam emails. I’m tempting to do that if the situation doesn’t improve.

Did they seriously say that? This company has no shame. They basically said “our service is trash but it’s your fault to use our email in the first place”. Classy. Even MSFT under Steve Ballmer wasn’t this ridiculous.
