Outlook does not reconnect after waking from sleep mode

Hi,

When I leave my computer idle so it enters sleep mode outlook does not reconnect to server and cannot update the latest emails. Closing the program down and starting again means that outlook will not even open. The only way I can get outlook to open up again properly is to restart the PC.

Is there a better fix than this, as it is rather annoying than to have to restart all the time.

I can confirm I have the latest updates for windows 11 and Microsoft office programs.

Thanks

Thanks so much for involving yourself in this craziness. I appreciate it, and I appreciate you.

While I am a Dell user (XPS 15 9570), I don't run ExpresConnect. I hope those who do will find your tack useful and effective.

Again, thank you. I promise to share whatever I find out here.

With Windows 11, I can restart Outlook 365, but sometimes I must go to the task manager, find "Microsoft Outlook" under processes (NOT apps), and end the task (right-click, "end task"). Haven't yet found a way to make it reconnect after sleep.

    Hi All,

SO need to confirm if this has 100% fixed this issue.

For now the machine has come out of sleep and outlook and teams are connecting fine.

STEP1 - open CMD as administrator.

    type SFC/ SCANNOW

This alone might have fixed my issue as there were corrupted files fixed but for an extra precaution i also ran a disc scan.

STEP2 - in the same cmd window

    type c: chkdsk /r

NOTE: this will run when you reboot the computer and if you have an ssd it will take 15 - 20 minutes. If you are running an older platter HDD then it could take hours. DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU ARE IMPATIENT OR NEED THE COMPUTER URGENTLY AS IT NEEDS TO COMPLETE 100% if you break this process your computer os might need recovery so dont do it unless you got time

Once the pc reboots you should be good to go.

I will confirm this fix in the morning when i am back at the office.

    thanks folks,

    hope this helps

I have tried several solutions and finally settled on just resetting Windows Explorer through Task Manager. Not a real solution, but things go back to expected for a while.

I have a similar issue... for the first time I have received an error message and it seems to be related to the archiving of mail... the OST file remains locked by a background process.

After I received the message, I had a look at running processes and there was a hidden process for Outlook... I killed it off and then was able to restart Outlook.
I am going to be disabling the archive schedule and leave it to manual... hopefully that stops Outlook from crashing.
