Outlook saying I need more storage.

Hi there,

I've used a live.com account for years, and have always logged in through my browser to view emails. Today, the page loaded with a thin red notification at the top stating "From February 1, you'll need more storage to send or receive email."

Obviously, for a start, it's 16 days past February 1 which is weird, and my email is all working fine at the moment.

Clicking on "Manage Storage" opens a window, which states that my total used for my Microsoft Storage (things backed up from a laptop I hardly use, didn't even realise that they were being backed up to be honest) is 7.8GB out of a 5GB limit. I tried unsyncing my desktop on said laptop, but all it's done is remove everything from that laptop, which is pretty frustrating as I just wanted to leave the data on there and just free up some space on the Microsoft storage.

Anyway, I'm not overly bothered by that by now, as I'm more worried about my emails not working. Separate to the Microsoft storage, it lists my "Email Storage", which is 7.6GB out of 15GB. Does anyone know why I'm getting notified that I'm in danger of losing my email and pushed to buy a ridiculously expensive price plan?

    I refuse to pay. Especially when I get so many junk emails each day. Even when I am offline for a few days at the time when on holiday, I still get so many junk mails.

    So sorry you had to go through all of that to get your email access back. In the tech world no one gives a rip about how they treat their fellow humans. All that matters is that they control you and make you do what they want you to do. No one is policing them. Yes, they have been dragged in front of Congress a couple of times, but its all a dog and pony show with no consequences (at least not yet).

    I always tell my wife that if I die of a heart attack it won't be from a blockage but from the stress of dealing with some internet, cable or other utility provider. There is virtually no customer service in this self absorbed world we are living in.

    Even if you delete all of you emails with attachments Microsoft will still say you’re over your limit and lock you from sending emails. They’re forcing us to buy it. You have no choice. It’s just another Silicon Valley scam.

    I've spent all weekend deleting thousands of messages, one by one. Deleting or emptying folders isn't an option except for the Deleted folder. And the "select all" ix gone. I was deleting the biggest things I could find, in addition to mass quantities. All of that, a couple gb worth, only reduced my used storage from 7.4 to 7.3 according to them. And I never had anything in Onedrive, but there is some stuff there anyway, maybe 10 files of kb size, under 1 mb total. Nowhere near 5 gb. Deceitful and disrespectful. If they want to charge for an account and storage they should just say so.
