I am using the free version of Outlook.com and followed the forums and help how to set up a GMail sync to Outlook.com.

However since two days I got this clicking on the "Sync Email" menu.

Even the X button on the upper right corner does not operates when being in this menu.

I tried this menu in browsers like Edge, Internet Explorer, Chrome, Opera.

All the same results.

Questions:

  1. can I use Gmail sync using free version of Outlook.com?
  2. do you know this

I have the same issue with daily Microsoft emails asking to "Please update your credentials" for a sync'd email account that was recently upgraded to a new server by the ISP (mypostoffice.co.uk).

I cannot access the Sync Email options at outlook.com to either remove the account or sync the account as describe on the multiple posts here.

Im trying to support my 86 year old mother who in this situation, and I have to say microsoft is causing her great distress with the daily messages advising to resync an account , with microsoft having removed the tools to so so.

As a paid up microsoft 365 customer, this is a totally unacceptable situation.

PS please note the daily email , currently being sent from Microsoft outlook, specifically advises to use the tools that are no longer working. As copied here:

If they removed the email sync function, why are some of my email accounts still syncing?

The biggest problem now is that I cannot remove those old accounts. Some produce errors due to wrong passwords.

I want to completely remove the synced accounts, and switch to a more reliable email provider.

However, the option to remove the synced accounts is broken, producing a lot of errors. What a fail.

Same here. If I go to "Sync email" menu, there's just the message "Unable to load these settings. Please try again later."

I can not add/remove synced e-mail account. I can not update password of the synced e-mail account.

    Please fix it...!!!

    All right

We understand that adding a Connected Account has been deprecated and now we get an error with the Sync Page with no support whatsoever – to the point that Microsoft Support are ignoring the issue and hoping that it goes away – and so do we!

Let me make a radicle suggestion for Outlook Support!:

    • Open a time-based window allowing us to delete our deprecated connected accounts feature
    • Create a New Tab allowing us to allocate the default FROM ADDRESS of our choice from our Outlook aliases
    • Also allow us to setup which email Outlook alias address should be our default email address
    • Allow us to allocate our Primary Outlook address as our default login on all our devices
    • In other words, differentiate which email address is viewed on all emails and which is used exclusively for Microsoft apps etc.
    • Allow us to select which alias/aliases are visible across our devices
    • We might not want to use all our aliases: created them to reserve them for the future!

    How difficulet can this be?

3/9/2022 My connected account after about 12 hours finally started receiving emails again but still no luck on ever being able to modify the settings.

For anyone who has to add or modify an email it looks like your going to have to switch to the Microsoft Mail app and here's a link I found on how to add

    https://chemicloud.com/kb/article/how-to-easily-setup-a-pop3-email-account-in-windows-10-mail/

But I would like to stress what IDIOTS are working on Microsoft's Outlook platform. If you're not going to support the feature then give a message that says that and points the users to a webpage that explains it. Not a try again later message if the Sync Email settings are never going to be available.

Also I'm a commercial software developer for 20+ years and I can tell you the total lines of code required to handle syncing POP and IMAP emails is probably less than 1000. That includes the code required to store your settings in the database. All the heavy coding is done by the existing Microsoft Windows dll files and hasn't really changed in decades. There was absolutely no valid reason I can think of for removing the connected accounts or Sync email from Outlook.com.
