Outlook - Android - Storage Use

Hello,

I'm not the first one I think to ask this question, but I cannot find any satisfactory answer - Is their any way to control the space  used by the Outlook Android App?

I just removed the account the App was linked to this morning : it was going up to 1.2 G - managing 01 Email account - linked to 01 cloud.

Gmail app - to which 2 Emails account (same one and one other) are linked is using Gmail for a total space of 258 MB - and access to data, including files enclosed to the email, is as fast as with outlook app.

Even if I would like to keep going using Outlook app - it seams just to be impossible to use until the question is solved.

Hope Outlook developer will one day find the way around this question - or at least to allow to switch most of the data on the SD card.

OK - I've had enough. I give up! Not only does Outlook User Storage keep shooting up to cause the phone's storage to hit 100% every few days, it now starts refusing to send e-mails. The new message is "Outgoing server error - cancel or update." The "update" option shows that the outgoing Mail server port number has been overwritten with the incoming IMAP server port number. Correcting it doesn't work - it stays stuck on the wrong number.

Outlook mobile really is a load of cr-p. It used to work fine until about the end of 2020. I don't know what Microsoft has screwed up.

Well, it's a free app... Let's focus on the critical issue. It'd be helpful that we all pressure MS with negative reviews on Google Play app website as well. I've done so. Hopefully you all will too.

I've been complaining about the data bloating and other IMAP issues since September 2020 with no resolution. All I get is the standard, "we are aware but an ETA is not yet known". For an enterprise company on one of their premier products, this is embarrassing.

Here are the bugs I've been reporting for over 6 months:

1). The Data files grow continuously until the file system is full, crashing the device. The only remedy is to delete all data, removing or resetting the account has no effect on the Data files.

2). The app crashes when I use the “Mark as Spam” function for IMAP accounts.

3). There is no button to empty the Junk folder in IMAP accounts.

4). The “Load More” button appears in many folders whether there are no messages or it is properly synced.

5). Deleted and Junk folders for IMAP accounts do not sync when they are empty and you click on the “Load More” button.

6). Messages in folders for Deleted Items and Junk for IMAP accounts do not appear in the combined inbox.

All we can do is keep complaining. My Outlook User Storage reached 16GB again this morning and the phone was 100% full. So, for the umpteenth time I deleted user Storage and re-added my IMPA account. This bug makes Outlook on Android a real piece of cr.p. Microsoft should really take their fingers out and fix it.

Okay, so we id-d that it seems to be IMAP related. Now, we need to all submit independent support requests to flood MS with the problem in Hope's they will fix it.

To do so, in Android at least, in the Outlook App, click on the top left icon (may be a photo you selected for your profile), then the help icon (a ? in a circle) at the bottom left, then "Contact Support". It will come up with prompts on "How can we help?". I suggest "performance/crash" the "other", then complete a submission.

If we all do this, perhaps it will be resolved. We must flood them with it.

For your consideration, I gave this as my submission. Feel free to just copy and paste.

    Cheers!

    My submission:

MAJOR BUG REPORT: The app has a serious flaw. When commerce to an IMAP account, at least on Android, the app downloads a significant amount of the email in that IMAP account, resulting in the app using 1GB or more of data storage on the phone. The only solution is to delete the IMAP account. Resetting the IMAP details yields again the same problem within a day or two. The long term workaround it to avoid using IMAP in this app, pending this bug is resolved by Microsoft. Please pass this bug report to the developers. More details at

I'm getting no help from MS support here.  I tried escalating it with the team that support my business account.  But as they are a separate team it appears they have no escalation route.  I'll try again with the in-app support - although I've been cut off each time the storage crashes the OS and each new agent takes us back to square one.  Quoting the ticket number doesn't seem to help.

I guess we'll just have to stop using Outlook....
