Outlook - Android - Storage Use

Indeed it's free - but for those of us who subscribe to MS and base our operations around the MS estate (and therefore pay MS quite a lot of money year on year) it seems very poor that they do not provide a mobile version of outlook on the same basis as the desktop versions.  In general I'd certainly pay for it - although of course I would expect some effective support.

I have expressed my disappointment via the app feedback more than once already.

Fingers crossed they'll fix it sometime before 2022.

Just a quick question - how did you put the table in?  Could you copy it or did you have to type it in cell by cell?

Hi, Every morning I look at Settings, Storage, Other Apps and select Outlook (always top of the list). I then open an Excel spreadsheet I am keeping and type in the values - cell by cell - but it is only 4 numbers. For this Community entry, I copy the spreadsheet to MS Word and then copy and paste it here.

I have Outlook 365 on my PC so I do not lose any emails when I reset on my mobile - they are synced across machines.

At least when I delete my mobile Outlook User Storage and restart, Outlook remembers the IMAP Port settings when I re-add my account. That saves me some annoying typing - I just have to re-enter the password 3 times. 

BTW I deleted and restarted this morning. Outlook now showing App size 266MB (why does this keep changing?) and User Data 111MB. Give it a few days and it will suddenly jump into the GigaByte size again.

I've got two Galaxy S9s.  Both have been crashing with this problem.

I've now got two running with the same version of outlook.  One has just one email account attached - as MS exchange one - and the other has that account and a SMTP account attached too.  The second one has just crashed again after two days - storage had grown to abut 8Gb - which seems to be the limit for the phone/OS combination before it stops working.  Now reinstalled it with just the one exchange account connected to see how it goes.

I've tried to raise this with M$ through the help feature in outlook on the phone - but apart from the acknowledgement, I've had no follow up from them.

I hope somebody can find a fix for this.

I have a Pixel 3 XL with 64GB. For the last 10 days I have a slightly new effect. After I have to reset "Clear Outlook storage, Power On/Off, Reinstall account" the User Data stays at about 300-400 MB for a couple of days then shoots up all of a sudden to 9-10 Gigabytes, near the boundary of crashing the system by using up all 64GB (100%). Then suddenly, shoots down again to 300-400 Megabytes for two days. The cycle then repeats 2 days very low, 2 days very high. I am waiting for the next high to cause a necessary account reset. I guess this must be a Microsoft problem, not Android. I wonder what Outlook is up to. Maybe downloading all Archives for some unknown reason??? 

This time it took two weeks. Now, again, storage usage at 100% and mobile telling me it can no longer work until storage is reduced. My "Clear Outlook storage, Power On/Off, Reinstall account " was on 20th Dec. Since then the Outlook User Data has swung around between 318 MegaBytes to now 17.21 GigaBytes.

Dear Microsoft, if you follow these comments PLEEASE do something!

I have the same problem, and I think it is related to a bug in the Outlook App for Android, when you use connected IMAP accounts.

In a previous post one gentleman listed the number of files created inside the outlook app folder.

I assume he had a rooted phone or set the app somehow to debug as access to this folder is not possible without root permissions.

I for myself had the problem that the app consumed around 30 - 40 GB with 3 linked accounts, 1 IMAP, 2 Exchange.

In my case (Samsung Galaxy S9 later S10) an error message came up that there are too many files and the phone need to be reset. Obviously after that error message creating new files (e.g. taking pictures) was no longer possible, causing several apps to crash.

I suspected another app creating random files, but thanks to this thread I realized it was the outlook app. I have now removed the IMAP account and the size has decreased to less than 1 GB.

In my case it was a (German) GMX account. The outlook app as had issued with this account in the past (e.g. adding it was only possible by using gmx.net instead of .de and then change the authentication).

I don't think there is any way for an end user to fix it. We have to hope that somebody @microsoft is reading this and then realizes he needs to fix something. 

So if you need to use IMAP you are better off with any other mailing app for now

I've the same issue since a few weeks on my Nokia 7.2 (Android 10) and therefore opened a MS community forum entry a few days ago. Today, someone wrote me that I'm not the only one with this issue :-( It happened to me already several times.

Last time, user data was at around 15 GB. 

I had to delete the user data by using the Android Debug Bridge (ADB), as the phone OS is always freezing when I'm trying to delete that huge amount of data via the ordinary app "user data delete" button: 

1. adb shell
2. pm clear com.microsoft.office.outlook
3. After about 10 minutes, all data is deleted (process must not be interrupted)
