Outlook Android app cannot login IMAP email server.

This suddenly started yesterday 3/4/2020.

I have 3 email accounts on my android Outlook app. Outlook.com, Google, my ISP's. The problem only happens with my ISP (comcast.net, IMAP).

Till yesterday night, I can send/retrieve emails from the same server without an issue with Outlook app.

First I noticed Outlook requested to re-enter email password. But it failed. So I deleted account, then added. Failed. I even removed Outlook app and re-installed it. Failed. Google and Outlook account are just fine.

I didn't change anything from my side. I can access Comcast email from Web/Windows 10 mail and even from the same phone using Samsung standard email app.

What was changed and how to solve it? I can use Samsung standard email app but I like Outlook.

I have version 4.2045.1 too, and the problem is defo still not fixed.  In fact it seems worse as I've not been able to setup a config that will login even when I default the IMAP port number as suggested elsewhere in this thread.  I've tried reinstalling and reconfiguring for 3 days without success.  Other email clients work every time.

Regarding certain 4.2044.1 that you got, OMS replied to me,

"the new version is not yet available in your region, once it's available you will get it."

I received an update. My version is now 4.2045.1. I still get the same login error when setting up my IMAP accoun , using the same settings successfully used in Outlook for iPhone.

    I can just repeat myself:

Not using a function, that is buggy, to prevent errors does not make the function work.

Not configuring the port on an IMAP connection to prevent errors does not make the buggy IMAP function of OfA work.

When you are not able to configure the port for the IMAP connection, how can you be sure that the right port is used?

OfA doesn't even give any information on which port it chose for the IMAP connection.

How can you be sure at all, that your IMAP connection is using a secure port, when you use Simple settings or Advanced settings without a port for IMAP?

    Kind regards, Gerald

IMAP uses by default the secure connection and port 993. I know this because we host our own servers. We do not allow unsecure mail. Our domains get a score of 100% for web and mail security with https://internet.nl. Just check your maildomain there. Security should be above 80% to be sure that the server uses secure mail standards.

So just enter the settings manually. The port that is being used is not similar to a transport protocol SSL or TLS. So entering a port does not add any security. That protocol can be used over evcery port so to say.

In my case, the first problem that appeared was similar to your #2.

I also have the #2 issue since the October 9. I created separate email box on my mail server for testing purposes to prevent compromising my email box, if the Outlook used insecure connection on port 143 instead of 993 when no explicit port is entered in the IMAP account setup.

My experience is that there was no difference regarding the issue #2 having the port 993 specified or not. It had stopped working after a while in both cases. But I have had no issues with setting up the account nor a need to re-enter the password later. I always got the "Updating" message after a while and the account was over.

Th issues with setting up the IMAP account may be related to the way you deleted the old one. Outlook asks if you want to remove it from the device only or from all mobile devices. My experience is, if you choose the first option there is problem to setup the same account again.
