Outlook Android app cannot login IMAP email server.

This suddenly started yesterday 3/4/2020.

I have 3 email accounts on my android Outlook app. Outlook.com, Google, my ISP's. The problem only happens with my ISP (comcast.net, IMAP).

Till yesterday night, I can send/retrieve emails from the same server without an issue with Outlook app.

First I noticed Outlook requested to re-enter email password. But it failed. So I deleted account, then added. Failed. I even removed Outlook app and re-installed it. Failed. Google and Outlook account are just fine.

I didn't change anything from my side. I can access Comcast email from Web/Windows 10 mail and even from the same phone using Samsung standard email app.

What was changed and how to solve it? I can use Samsung standard email app but I like Outlook.

    Please keep up with the subject. of this thread. It is NOT about site improvement!

    When using the ANDROID OUTLOOK app you have to configure it manually if you want to use a non Microsoft mail server for your mail domain.

    As said earlier:

    1. use the ? on top to open the custom settings
    2. enter the IMAP server with no ports
    3. enter the SMTP server with a port (587 or 465) ... servername:587

    And this still does work for me now after recent updates.

    I can just repeat myself:

    Not using a function, that is buggy, to prevent errors does not make the function work.

    Not configuring the port on an IMAP connection to prevent errors does not make the buggy IMAP function of OfA work.

    When you are not able to configure the port for the IMAP connection, how can you be sure that the right port is used?

    OfA doesn't even give any information on which port it chose for the IMAP connection.

    How can you be sure at all, that your IMAP connection is using a secure port, when you use Simple settings or Advanced settings without a port for IMAP?

    I think that there are two different issues discussed here lately:

    1. The IMAP account setup doesn't work. You can't create it using the advanced setup.
    2. The IMAP account setup does work and the account works for several hours or days until the "Updating" message appears when the Outlook is started, then the account stops to work at all. The only fix is to remove it and setup again.

    In my case, the first problem that appeared was similar to your #2.  Except, what happened after a couple of days,  Outlook would tell me that I had to setup the account.  In so doing, all settings were there.  I just had to enter passwords.  Upon doing so, it still would not work.  Had to remove account and re-install.

    After that, upon instruction from O365 support, since OAndroid didn't step up to help, I "uninstalled" Outlook, which turned out to be not possible on my Surface Duo.  However, that did erase all the saved settings, like server addresses.  This time, when setting up the IMAP account, I got a Login Error.

    Back at OutlookAndroid support, they tell me that the latter is a known issue and will be worked on by the Engineering team.  The continue to say that the latter is not a problem related to Outlook.

    Oh, OK.  That won't work with my IMAP account.  Hoping the Outlook update you got is available to me soon.

    Simply means that the account can be setup without the user having to enter more than the email address and relevant password. Microsoft techs can learn from the android app developers who put together TypeApp, Bluemail etc
