Outlook Android app cannot login IMAP email server.

This suddenly started yesterday 3/4/2020.

I have 3 email accounts on my android Outlook app. Outlook.com, Google, my ISP's. The problem only happens with my ISP (comcast.net, IMAP).

Till yesterday night, I can send/retrieve emails from the same server without an issue with Outlook app.

First I noticed Outlook requested to re-enter email password. But it failed. So I deleted account, then added. Failed. I even removed Outlook app and re-installed it. Failed. Google and Outlook account are just fine.

I didn't change anything from my side. I can access Comcast email from Web/Windows 10 mail and even from the same phone using Samsung standard email app.

What was changed and how to solve it? I can use Samsung standard email app but I like Outlook.

The Blue Mail app has been updated this week. Push notifications seems to work better, still delayed up to one minute though. It is a decent replacement of the Outlook.

I just found myself in the same situation. I tested it with my own mailserver where I had access to the logs. It seems that the Outlook for Android app can't handle double quotes in the password. If your password contains double quotes, try changing the password. It might fix it. I am also going to contact Microsoft about that issue.

OfA is still broken in so many ways, whilst other Android email apps work perfectly.

    I've got five mailboxes (1 x Outlook ; 4 x ISP-hosted)

I've wasting months, days and hours of my life with in-app support. They keep on asking me to do the same things over and over, like send screenshots of the problems, test connectivity, blah blah blah...

I'm still getting some emails arriving with 'no sender' 'no subject'.

I still have to enter my password EVERY time i want to check mail on one of my ISP accounts.

I then always get a pop-up message saying 'server certificate invalid', then it connects.

I've reset that mailbox countless times.

I've deleted that account and added it again countless times.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled OfA countless times.

How is it possible that i have no problems with other emails apps, and i have no problems with Outlook 365 on my laptop?

Is it ever going to get fixed?

This is the response I received from Microsoft in regards to the issue:-

    "

Hi Marco, thanks for reporting this. I've checked with our dev team and it appears that this is a known issue that is affecting a small subset of our users. Our dev team is already aware of this and they are already working on a fix. Unfortunately, we don't have an ETA yet when the fix will be available. Hopefully, soon. Just make sure that you always have the latest version installed to get the fix as soon as it's out. Thanks for your patience.

Let me know if there's anything else that we may be able to assist you with.

    Regards,"

    Version 4.2048.4

    IMAP-Port: 993

    SMTP-Port: 587

    Symptoms:

    • No Push-Notification
    • Incoming e-mails are being synchronized, but message appears every time: "Please login to [e-mail account]".
    • Outgoing e-mail: "Sending" for a quite long time; then displayed in folder "Sent", but the e-mail doesn't get to the receipient. Actually it is in folder "Drafts" when I check the account via webmail.

I would be willing to help fixing OfA, as well as surely many others.

Why does Microsoft not make use of such a valuable ressource?
