Outlook.com contacts not syncing to iPhone (but calendar and e-mail are)

Hoping someone can help.

THE ISSUE: My new iPhone 7 isn't pulling in my contacts into the Phone >Contacts app (the stock iPhone contacts app) from Outlook.com. It's strange because both my e-mail and calendar from Outlook.com are syncing properly.

WHAT I'VE TRIED:

* I've removed the Outlook.com account and readded.  Still nothing.

* I've unchecked the "contacts" toggle and retoggled it back on. It says it's syncing, but the contacts are not there.

* Downloaded the Outlook app from the App Store. Confirmed the Contacts show up.

* Gone to Outlook.com and OPtions>General and confirmed the iPhone is in the Devices area.  Status is "OK"

Any thing else to try?

What if my device is suddenly showing as quarantined?

It was working perfectly fine before?

I see that the Access state is set to quarantined by default. When Outlook account is added to iPhone, an email is sent by Outlook recommending to use MS Outlook app for iPhone. One has to explicitly click to use "Use default App" to let the Access State change from Quarantined to "Access Granted".

Many thanks for posting the solution.

Here is just an update as some bits have been moved/renamed/changed by Microsoft...

    1. Login to outlook.live.com
    2. In the browser, click on Settings icon (gear at top right) > scroll down the Quick Settings panel and click on 'View all Outlook settings'
    3. In the pop-up window, select 'General' > 'Mobile Devices'
    4. Select the iPhone, note if you have more than one iPhone (e.g. an older device), select the 'Edit' icon (pencil) to check the details including the version, 'OK' to exit details
    5. Click on the 'Delete' icon (bin) to remove the device
    6. Power off the iPhone
    7. Power on the iPhone - device should attempt to re-register with Microsoft
    8. Open the iPhone Mail app and look for email with subject: "ACTION REQUIRED TO SYNC EMAIL" (note, this email won't appear in the online version of Outlook, only in the iPhone Mail app)
    9. Scroll down the message and click on: "Continue using this email app".

I've had the same problem, but found the solution.

Just add your outlook account the regular way, no contacts will be added at this time.

BUT, now go to Settings/Accounts & Passwords and at the bottom you will see "Fetch new Data" and it will be set to "Push"

Click on that, next click on Outlook and change the "Push" to "Fetch" and all the contacts are downloaded.

    Hi,

i´ve the same issue with a new iPhone X and iOS 11.2.x., Outlook.com contacts didn´t sync to iPhone. The Outlook app has all inside, mail, contacs, calender.

All Steps described here and elsewhere, didn´t help for me.

Solved the Problem in this way:

    1. in iOS Settings
    2. go to Accounts
    3. use the Outlook.com Account and mark mail, contacts and calender
    4. go 1 step back to accounts and Change "push" option for Outlook.com account to "fetch"
    5. open iOS Mail App and let them sync mail and open welcome mail from Microsoft and klick use mail app for email
    6. go to contacts and let them sync, now all contacts are there
    7. go back to Settings and account and switch back from "fetch" to "push"
    8. you can add and delete contacts and now contacts are synced in seconds from Phone to Outlook.com or from Outlook.com to iPhone.

    Hope this helps
