Hi There,

I was having the same issue with my connected gmail account but I managed to solve it.

  1. Go to outlook.com
  2. Go to settings on the top right hand corner.
  3. Go to Accounts -> Connected Accounts
  4. Click on Gmail address and click edit, you can then change your display name there.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Wilson

I spent less time on the following than I did trying to get Microsoft to change the name on my outgoing emails:

    • Copy all files from OneDrive off OneDrive
    • Copy all contacts from Outlook.com

-Save all emails form outlook for the account

    • Create and set up new account
    • Share Office 365 with the new account
    • Add new account to my family
    • upload old files to new Onedrive account
    • Add old contacts to new account
    • email all contact notifying them of the email address change
    • remove old account from Microsoft family

This is literally an option by name on other email providers. This is one of the most simple tasks for any avenue of providing accounts. How the hell can M$ get it wrong?

If the contacts I'm dealing with didn't expect an Outlook address for reasons and didn't need OneDrive, I would have loved to just start over on gmail.

I found another one in addition to deleting cookies answer, as Hashim Haniff (@Hisham Haniff), suggested, tried to send a mail to myself by typing the old display name (the one trying to change/delete),  after the default contact appeared , pressses the "x" to delete it from contact list and typed the new one in the "to and it worked for me now.

    Hello,

I have the same issue. Don't know if this will work for you but it worked in my case. To clarify my situation:

    1. I am using the free outlook.com email account e.g. ******@outlook.com
    2. My issue was my initial Microsoft account profile name was e.g. : Sam Smith
    3. I change the profile name to Samuel Smith
    4. However when I send email out, outlook.com still set the 'From' field as Sam Smith <@outlook.com>** instead of using my new name Samuel Smith <@outlook.com>.**I can verify that this is the case when I receive email reply from my contacts (or simply go through the email copied to the Sent folder)

To change this behavior (what I did) :

    1. Log in to your outlook.com account (I did it in a web browser not the Mail desktop app or other email client e.g. Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.)
    2. Create a new email message (send it to yourself is OK, or your other email account, doesn't matter)
    3. Click in the 'To' field, a drop down 'Suggested contacts' will appear. In this list you should see your own outlook.com email address. Delete your outlook.com email address in the list. (When you hover your mouse on any of the suggested contacts, a 'X' mark will appear on the right-hand side of it. Click the 'X' mark to delete that suggested contact.)
    4. If you have more than one alias for the account, delete the email address which is set as your primary alias. (This was what I did. I am not sure if deleting all of your aliases from the suggested contact list is necessary, as it was not in my case; but a further option to try out if thing doesn't work out.)
    5. Send the email and confirm your new profile name is used.

Hope this help. IMO, this is an unnecessary annoyance which should have been corrected by Microsoft sooner.
