Changing display name in Outlook.com

Hi! 

Originally this account was under a different name which I have changed. But it does not appear when people email me. How do I change this name???

To get a better clarity about the issue, please provide the details below:

  1. How do you access Outlook.com?
  2. Do you use Internet Explorer to access Outlook.com or any mail app?

3.When you say "it does not appear when people email me" are you facing issue from your end or the people who are sending emails to you?

Meanwhile, If you want to change the profile name for Outlook.com, please follow the steps below:

  1. Sign in to http://profile.live.com/ .
  2. Click on edit and save it.

Once you update the profile name correctly, Outlook.com will appear the correct name display.

Hi There,

I was having the same issue with my connected gmail account but I managed to solve it.

  1. Go to outlook.com
  2. Go to settings on the top right hand corner.
  3. Go to Accounts -> Connected Accounts
  4. Click on Gmail address and click edit, you can then change your display name there.

    Wow! This is REALLY RETARDED, Microsoft! I just wasted about an hour trying to change name on the friend's hotmail account. I didn't know that it was so difficult.

    Also a side note. IE, or whatever you install in Win10, is no longer a dominant web browser (THANK GOD!) so you need to adjust and test it for what people use the most.

    Here's what you need to do on Chrome:

    You basically need to delete Hotmail Cookies, log out and log back in. So I'll show in pictures:

    and then in a popup window:

    This will reset all your TFA and other security but at least you'll be able to change the name on the email account.

    PS. Just curious, why do people still use this Hotmail crap?

    Hi Karan:

    I also met this problem on Chrome.

    I've test on both Chrome and Firefox. 

    Firefox will show the correct new name.

    (I use Firefox to open this page at the first time only to confirm the situation)

    So maybe it's a bug from chrome. Maybe chrome do some tricky local cache mechanism and not updating from server...

    While sending new email to my self,

    I also confirmed that the suggestion of "TO" is not updated automatically.

    (When I type in my own mail address, it still shows old nickname at the first time.)

    In this case, I need to "remove" my address from the suggestion list, then everything go right.

    Hi Amrita

    I use Outlook.com and I have updated my name by going to http://profile.live.com, and I updated my Skype display name. I have also refreshed the page and signing out and signing back in. None of this has worked to update my Outlook.com display name. Is there anything else that can be done?
