Recent update to Teams causes beeping in headset when on mute

Been using Teams since the start of lockdown with a headset. As of today I am getting a double-beep at about five second intervals (like a hold beep) in the headset when I am muted. This has not happened before and been using same headset for months.

Also note that when I mute / unmute in Teams, the headset now announces "mute on" and "mute off" to me.

This feels like a Teams update has created this "feature" - please turn it off!

For me, this Custom Setup works to stop beeping. I changed the Microphone channel from the laptop micro' while still listening from the headset.

Anecdotic answer from Aftershokz to the question "in which universe a user would want a tilting beep every 5s while in a meeting" is:

"it's to remind you that you are muted so you don't speak for nothing"... LOL !

I'd say for sure we won't forget now...

At least provide a way to make it 10 times less noisy if switching it off is not an option...

I figured out a work around for the issue with an AfterShokz headset. Simply go into DEVICE SETTINGS and disable or select your default device microphone. Beeps stop (hooray!!!!)

Mmmh can you elaborate please ? I don't have DEVICE SETTINGS menu in Windows 10.

But if you're suggesting to not use the AfterShokz microphone and use the laptop's one instead for example, this has been proposed already and I confirm it works. Doing this, Teams stop considering the headset as a handsfree device and doesn't enable this annoying beep.

But in my opinion this is not a satisfying solution even if it's probably the only efficient workaround. The headset microphone is much better and it was the whole point of buying a $160 headset. It's a shame to not be able to use it.

Note that I've asked Aftershokz if they could send me the famous USB dongle but they only proposed a 20% price redux. I think they stopped providing it for free and I understand why.
