    Concentrate your attention on the second part of my post:

    "If KB2862330 has not been installed, KB2862330 is not hidden, and KB2862330 is not currently offered by Windows Update, don't worry about it."

    PS: This is a Consumer-specific forum manned primarily by volunteers. Do these computers belong to you or your employer?

    MS won't fix it until they can understand what the problem is. 

    The items are not a security threat, it's the bad guys that can build malicious code to exploit it.

    Greg can I set up a support case for you so we (and Microsoft) can figure out why your machine is reacting to this?

    Susan,

    Thanks for your seemingly knowledgeable reply.  I'm sort of shell shocked right  now though.  I've just spent the last 12 hours or so restoring my PC to the state it was in on 6 November before this important update exploded on me.

    I had reported earlier success installing this update, then yesterday morning after installing updates, my PC once again acted erratically.  It booted up, without error and then started popping up a bunch of errors about files being missing, I couldn't access the internet, and many of my programs.  After trying several system restores (all failed) and several attempts to uninstall updates (all failed) I was left with the unpleasant task of restoring my PC from a previous image.

    After doing that and installing 159 updates (less 2862330), I once again attempted to install 2862330 using the method that was successful a few days ago.  The install went fine, but when I re-enabled the USB host controller, Windows started reporting that it was loading device drivers and all of a sudden, "poof" it crashed again, just like it was doing a few days ago on boot up.

    My PC seems to work fine without this update.  I have four things plugged into my USB ports 1) Printer, 2) Monitor (web cam and more USB ports) 3) Externally hard drive and 4) A UPS monitor cable. 

    How can any of these be a security threat?  I am very cautious about trying to install this troublesome update again.  Is it really needed or can I just forget about it until MS decides to fix it.
