can't update to 8.1 0xc1900101-0x20017

Tried to the new release 8.1 today 10/17.  My desktop was successful, but my laptop failed with can't update to 8.1 0xC1900101-0x20017.

I have read a clean install may be required. I have just installed windows 7 then upgraded to windows 8 about one month ago. Is there a way of downloading an ISO image for 8.1 and a key to due a clean install of 8.1 without paying $150.

The laptop is a ASUS U43F with a Crucial M500 960GB SSD.

    Has anyone found a solution to this? I also have an ASUS U43F and I have tried all the suggestions with no success.

    After more that 10 hours on the phone with 5 different Microsoft tech experts and one more hours on chat/phone with asus, still not solution to update to windows 8.1.  Both MS and Asus have made case reports and are still working on this and will get back to me.  After more than 25 attempts to upgrade to 8.1, I think the installation software stumbles over something just at the end of its progress and is not forgiving enough to allow the install with a minor problem that could be fixed by future effort.

    If I get anywhere on this, I will post the results.

    Hello, I have had 3 one hour sessions with Microsoft in order to identify a fix for updating an Asus U43f laptop to windows 8.1. All the posts I have read sounds like no one with this model was able to successfully update. I will be on the phone next Tuesday with Microsoft with a remote connection to my laptop after a group of MS Tech try to identify the problem and a fix. I will post the results

    just tried clean install today and still got the same error after low level format and clean install from a Windows 8.1 installation DVD. Got the same error on initial screen. There must be a flaw in this update because I get the driver_violation error still and no drivers are installed in a clean install.
