Event ID 20 - WHEA-Logger - AMD Northbridge

"I had the problem again today, and I came across this possible solution, which may have worked for someone else.

I turned off "fast startup".  I don't know if this will help or not.  I have not been experiencing this issue often, so I won't know for a while if this helps or not until more time has gone by.  I had this happen on November 20 and then again today.

To turn off "fast startup",  from within the Control Panel, choose Power Options.   Then Choose what the power button does.  Then "Settings that are currently unavailable", then remove the checkmark from "Turn on fast startup (recommended)".  Save the changes, turn off computer.  Then turn it back on.  Booting up everything takes longer, which might be annoying, but experiencing possible file corruption due to these reboots would be a lot worse, I think.  YMMV. 

Good luck.  I'll post one way or the other if this works.  I would give it a couple of weeks before I would deem the problem resolved."

My laptop has not rebooted since I disabled fast startup.

I'm having this problem too. For the last month or so, my pc randomly reboots whether I'm playing games or just sitting on reddit. Happens within minutes of turning on my computer, or hours after my pc has been on. Today I received this error in my event log

A fatal hardware error has occurred.

Component: AMD Northbridge

Error Source: Machine Check Exception

Error Type: 11

Processor APIC ID: 0

Which is what brought me to this thread. So far, no updating/rollbacks of any drivers has made a difference.

Like you all, every support source has led me to believe something is overheating inside my pc. Very possibly given my pc is 2 years old. However I've done everything I can to keep the pc cool.

Edit: also in my event viewer, I have a lot of these errors that occur around the same time my PC is restarting. No idea what this means; it's gibberish to me. perhaps someone could tell me if this is related or no.

The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID

and APPID

{4839DDB7-58C2-48F5-8283-E1D1807D0D7D}

to the user NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL SERVICE SID (S-1-5-19) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

Disable Superfetch. It's what's causing the crashes (usually due to it over-using (+100%) the hard-drives, CPU & GPU.)

If you're using a SSD you are most likely out of luck as this won't fix your issue.

I have no idea either. But I'm having the same experience so far! I disabled fast startup, the computer now takes a little longer to startup, but this is the longest period without the problem (23 days [my use is not intense]). The previous record had been 15 days.

I'm also experiencing this issue and it has been rather annoying. Computer shop ran stress tests on it for 2 days, to no avail. Was told to change the outlet I was using because it could have  been faulty but that did nothing either as my computer restarted again today. Right now I, as all of us in this thread are, am pretty desperate to find an issue that doesn't have to do with having to upgrade to a whole new motherboard, RAM, and CPU. 

I'll try the fix and I'll keep an update on how it works out for me. I'm glad theres an active thread about this!
